The Hope Inn was a popular pub with locals and outsiders coming for meals, but the new owner hasn't even tried to reopen it since the demolition of the main bar (called the side extension in the planning application).
The Lydden Bell reopened just after The Hope closed, with an owner who knows what he is doing and has a successful business based on restaurant, not drinks, trade.

With peters public praising of cheap, east European workers, Hopefully he will be dependent on the same for his customers

There's a sign outside the Red Lion saying it has new management & the estate agent's board has gone.

I heard that the "Ellie" had changed it's proposed name and is due to open imminently.

The Ellie is soon to become the Port of Call.

Nice name for a pub especially in a seaport.

The Port of Call is in the hands of Steve and Trish from the Rack of Ale, many of us know what a success that has been, so let's hope that the Port is as well, good luck to all concerned!

Will they run both or close the Rack Of Ale?

I would think they would run both as the "Port of call" appears to be totally different serving food and having live music.

Strange description on the door as I can see little similarity to a micropub if they are doing food and music, but good luck to them.

I think it sounds great. It could be a great attraction and well located for the many German, Belgian and Dutch visitors seeking an authentic British pub experience as well as local people.

I have been hearing all year about three or four micropubs that were supposed to be opening.
It seems that two are now actually close to starting up.

Hmmm, gas leak in the street. Took the gas men a week to find it, now they've filled it in again but left the paving stones up. It all reminds me of an old Flanders & Swann song. 'Twas on a Monday morning/ The gas man came to call etc.....
