When do you anticipate opening Peter?

Probably around the end of the month, Howard. Officialdom is now all satisfied, it's just a matter of getting everything sorted inside. Hopefully they will find the gas leak soon. That has been a bit of a comedy. On Friday they filled in the holes, this morning first thing they replaced the paving stones, then another crew came at lunchtime and dug it all up again, now on both sides of the road.

I've heard that Greg the landlord of the Three Cups is leaving and a 'manager' going in.

The Port of Call is closed until further notice, no reason given.

Where did you hear that, Howard? There's no sign to that effect and although it's not open at the moment the lights on the sign are on.

January is notoriously a difficult month for pubs, maybe they have gone into hibernation?

Like market traders many publicans take their annual holiday around this time of year when it is quiet. Many years ago we looked after the Dublin Man of War pub when the tenants went on holiday.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

If it is a case of using a quiet period to take a holiday surely it would be logical for the 3 closed pubs to spread it out so that one pub remains open, the Port of Call is still closed today.

I have heard someone is planning to buy it and re-open it. Just hearsay, rather than hard facts, but hopefully true.

I thought the people who run the "Rack of Ale" owned the "Port of Call".

No Howard, they briefly took a lease in the summer but sold it on PDQ.

The Golden Lion is advertising for part time bar staff, experience preferred but not essential if anyone is interested.

The Royal Oak in River has been closed. It might have re-opened?
Few of the regulars there have been going to the Fox. Nice pub, but at £4.75 for Guinness/lager...

The shutters and the for sale sign have been removed from The Park Inn. Lots of people mentioning this last night but no one seems to know what's happening with it.
