18:2467813I know I haven't been a member for very long so do not know what infights there have been in the past.
This little blip is nothing in comparisson with some remarks that are made on a couple of other forums I belong. Some of the comments there could be a lawyers delight.
Remember we can't see the facial expression of the writer so it can be easy to misconstrue the real meaning of a post.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

18:3967823In which case, Jan, the writer should err on the side of caution. Surely anything that could misconstrued as offensive should never be written in the first place, or is common courtesy too much to expect in this day and age?

19:1267841At the end of the day Vic started out wanting to raise dosh for a charity, and it should be applauded.
The nuts and bolts of it can be worked on.
good luck Vic

19:4567868As I said - he didn't deserve the hostility. And please don't claim that there was none, re-read the posts. Clearly this needs to have a line drawn under it before it gets as nasty as it has the potential to be. Maybe just a plea for a little thought before posting? Unless the offence really is meant...........if you are going to dish it you really will have to also take it!!

22:1767885I must admit that I`m rather amazed at some of the comments on this particular thread.
Here we have a guy ( Vic ), loath him or love him, prepared to put himself out in order to obtain a few quid for one of the most deserving causes I can think of and yet some seem more happy to criticise than assist or encourage.
It now seems that Vic has been deeply hurt by some of the comments and is, understandably, now unlikely to want to proceed with his charity scheme.
However, IF Vic reconsiders, and it`s a big IF, as I come from a senior financial background I would be prepared to deal with the "collection" side of things. Don`t expect me to fanny about with any bloody licences though. For God`s sake, we`re talking about a few cheques for a deserving charity, not exactly the same league as the Paki cricket scandel.
Off the top of my head, I would suggest that anybody wishing to contribute can think of a figure that they are able to give per hour to Vic`s "attempt" or alternatively a lump sum if he fully completes his mission.
You then know what you wish to donate and you can e-mail me for my address. By then you will know exactly which Hospice etc., to make the cheque payable to and after sending to me they can all be presented on behalf of the forum by Vic, Paul, Howard or whoever.
Anybody who considers that I may be a bit dodgy ( No, I don`t have a criminal record! ) can check their bank statements that their payment has gone to the appropriate body.
I really don`t see this as a big issue unless I`ve missed something?
As I say, this is off the top of my head, and no doubt a bit of fine tuning would be required, but I guess the above suggestion would at least ensure that the poor mites that attend these places would perhaps benefit in some small way by forumites generosity.
However, this is all dependant of course, as to whether Vic will reconsider his position.

22:2167887the big issue seems to come from vic, all that has been asked is clarification of the nitty gritty.

12:3967947Andy, we see it differently, no need to get so emotional and aggressive for heaven's sake. Fortunately John has moved the conversation on but I still won't be contributing. See my other post for the reason why.
