20:3467666Well I know I'll get some flak for saying this but I don't think this is a good idea at all. There are already worthwhile charities for cancer and children and hospices and I already donate to them because I know the money goes where I want it to go. Vic I'm sorry but I get the impression that this is another of your attempts to get talked about and I don't think it's fair. Anyway don't you have to have a licence to collect money for charity? There must be some law about it otherwise anyone could (and have done) collect money and pocket it. I'm not suggesting for one minute that Vic would do that but I think he's laying himself open to all sorts of problems if he decides to do this. Vic give your money to Demelza House or Pilgrims Hospice or McMillan nurses if you want to help and let others do the same.
Just my view of course (as Keith would say)
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

07:1967711I thought Vic was talking about Pilgrims Hospice - they have three Hospices - Ashford, Canterbury and I believe, Thanet.
A wonderful Organisation/Charity and one that we may all need in years to come. I support them their lottery and got their collection boxes put into lots of shops in Dover when I ran the Dover Loyalty Scheme.

08:0067714However poorly Vic introduced this, and whatever the challenges about handling the funding, I don't think he deserved one iota of the hostility or trivialising he received on here. Some people should be ashamed.
If this happens I will support it, if it doesn't I will find the hospice Vic mentioned and donate anyway. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, Vic.

08:0667718I too have been confused by this thread.I My understanding is there is just the one childrens hospice in East Kent ,Demelza House near Sittingbourne.
Back in the nineties with help from Ron Dryden (Charlton Centre)sadly no longer here I arranged two concerts in Dover Town Hall .The audience were entertained by The Hythe Town Concert Band .The first one we made £2,000 and the second was a little under. They were both sell outs .
There are the three Hospices as named for adults .
Like Jacuqui.I already give to charity on a monthly basis ,Asthma, and the Air Ambulance .If you really want to make a difference you have to arrange an event .John Goodwin is good at this .
These days I just do village events .The Tea Party is on the 2th September Howard .Lavendar and Lace .

09:5867742Thanks, Bern, for your support of Vic.
This morning I received an email from my friend Vic who is desperately upset at some of the personal abuse he's taken over this, and he feels like jacking it all in, and I for one don't blame him one little bit. Jacqui, your post was offensive to say the very least and quite unworthy of you - you owe Vic an apology and I hope you're big enough to offer one.
Paul B knows this, and I expect Howie does too, but the reason I stopped posting on here was down to personal abuse that was allowed to go unchecked. It's also why I resigned as Moderator on Dover Locals, and why I am now restricting myself to LRCF posts and non-controversial topics. It seems as though some on here are deemed fair game as targets for abuse, just as they were on Dover Locals, and seeing some of the posts on here reminds me of a pack of baying hounds in for the kill. To say I'm disgusted is a mild understatement; I hope you lot are happy that you've caused hurt in such a manner.

11:2067751Im afraid Jacqui you caused some upset with post 41. Vic normally takes these things on the chin, being a pugilist of legend, and never ever complains but this post (41) hurt him and he has officially complained. As have others.
While its not a secret that Vic causes irritation at times to some members he nevertheless is generally well intentioned..as he is with this charity thing.
But I would ask members generally not to cause upset where possible. We like to leave people alone and hope for a large degree of self moderating in the contributions...so I would ask people not to cause personal offence by posting but just think for that moment longer.

11:4367755Jacqui hasn't upset me.
I think there is some over-sensitivity here. Jacqui was very careful not to accuse Vic, but point out previous abuses as one of her reasons for not joining in and suggesting Vic be careful. Jacqui is also right to point out that some fund-raising schemes need a license for DDC.
This is clearly a sensisitve issue and one we all would feel morally bribed to support, but quite frankly, the approach used by Vic has been ill thought through and shambolic to be honest. I wouldn't give a button or do anything to support such a scheme.
As you say Paul, Vic is used to coming up with madcap and hair-brained schemes, this is just another, and should be innured to critisicm, albeit constructive this time.
Andy, you would do well to re-read Jacqui's posting and stop playing the minder for things non-UKIP that Vic gets himself embroiled in.
On a personal note, I only give to the RNLI so please don't bother asking me to donate to other charities.

12:5167761i read the post in question 3 times as i was not sure whether it did break the rules, i decided that jacqui was not accusing vic of anything other than being disorganised. everyone knows that vic is one the most honest people around and manages to confuse many of us with his new ideas.
looks like paulb sees it the same way.
all the other posts on the thread related to where the childrens hospice is and how do we go about contributing to it.
like sid the only charity i support financially is rnli but would be willing dig into my pockets for this one.

17:3867793I also thought Jacqui's post was OK and Vic and some others have read too much into it.
Sorry Vic, but all my spare dosh goes to things we need at the shop and a couple of other charities.

17:4467796I think this little mole hill has turned into a disorganised mountain.
I didn't see anything wrong with the post and no one was accused of anything.
Only to be careful of the way ahead.

17:5867800Vic, little earnings as I presently have, I will support the noble cause you have presented, for a children's hospice in Kent! Be proud of yourself for your care for childen!
Personally I would edit tears when reading some of the posts on here, but it's good to know that there are people who care for childen in need of society's help and involvement!
Vic, you are a credit to Dover!

18:0967803"Vic I'm sorry but I get the impression that this is another of your attempts to get talked about and I don't think it's fair. Anyway don't you have to have a licence to collect money for charity?" Jacqui (Post 41)
"Jacqui hasn't upset me.
I think there is some over-sensitivity here." Sid (Post 50)
Well, Sid, it's not about you, is it? It's a blatant and undeserved personal attack on someone else, and as usual we're supposed to treat it as though personal attack and snide insinuation is acceptable, par for the course among some pretty nasty characters on here.....how can you possibly justify Jacqui's first sentence by dismissing it is "over-sensitivity"?
Another black day for Dover Forum, and there have been too many recently.
