'There's been very, very little evidence that any transmission outdoors is happening in the UK,' Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh, told the Science and Technology Committee today.
'There were no outbreaks linked to crowded beaches,' he said. 'There's never been a Covid-19 outbreak linked to a beach ever anywhere in the world to the best of my knowledge.'
Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs, who'd have thunk it, you don't say, etc, etc.
And, yes, the Pope is catholic.

I got my jab this morning at long last in the Health Centre, so far no problems and they were very helpful to this awkward old lady.
Thanks for that Jan. Is that the one in Maison Dieu? That used to be called Maison Dieu Health Centre? Unnecessarily complicating things that is.
My mother had an appointment at "Pencester" a few months back, only to be told when we got there that it was actually at Maison Dieu. And they had blocked off the easy route from the car park to the door at Maison Dieu, which was a nightmare for my mothers barely functioning legs. No wonder there is almost always someone or something illegally parked near the door there.
I wonder how many people have made the same understandable error?

TWD yes, Pencester Health took over Dr Jain's practice upstairs which was very well run.
I hope you get sorted, trying to get the vaccine appointment can be so stressful as I found out.

It's not for me Jan it's for my mum. She is 80+ and pretty much house bound and can't reasonably get to the vaccination places. Even if she could she couldn't be expected to wait around in the cold in a queue for ages.
One of our health workers had been in touch with Pencester regarding the jab. Said they'd be in touch. We got a phone call Thursday stating someone would visit to administer the jab on Friday or Saturday. We still haven't had a visit (unless we didn't hear the door). Finally got through close to closing time yesterday and they stated that they would look into it today and that they would call me back. I have had no call, and as it's now gone five I'm guessing I won't get one now and will have to go through the same rigmarole again tomorrow.
Stressful is an understatement!

I really hope you get it sorted, could they have meant this weekend with all the ice and snow around recently those doing the home visits might have been delayed.
I used my mobility scooter to get there, went in and asked if I could sit down, the South Foreland Lions who were acting as marshals were brilliant and so very helpful, so a huge thankyou to them.

Met up with a load of friends this afternoon. Unfortunately it was in the car park at Barham for a funeral.

Apparently the number of people in hospital with COVID in Kent is down by 95% since the New Year.

Remembered your post and tried this number after being stuck at number nine in the queue for appointments for about ten minutes (after the five minutes of Corona chit chat of course).
All you get is recorded message now!
Back to being number nine in the queue again I guess. I'm wondering if it goes above nine. How long does it take to book an appointment anyway? That's all I'm trying to do. My housebound mothers second jab is due and we've heard nothing, though I keep getting reminded via text to book an appointment for mine, even though it's been booked for next week since eleven weeks ago.

Our local surgeries have amalgamated and upon checking I found that they have formed a company which suggests that it is morphing towards being a private practice and thus profit must be a motivation for their operation.
The telephone system is a pain to get through to a doctor’s surgery in most places now as they appear to be using one line for all incoming calls. On our local system there is all the guff before you are offered a choice of numbers for the service you require .
For appointments ours is number 1 and I have found that as soon as I get through to the surgery I am able to bypass all the Covid waffle by pressing number 1 straight away.
This has cut down the waiting time considerably especially soon after 8.30am or 2pm.. Might be worth a try.

This from 2 days ago shows the complete opposite to Keith's comment, all the arrows point to down figures.

Keith, you've got to remember that the smaller the figures the greater any change will be in percentage terms.
While the latest figure for Dover do indeed show a rise ( 04/05 Weekly cases per 100,000 people =18.6 UP 8.5 vs previous 7 days) there aren't 100,000 people in the district, so it will only take for example one family who feel ill deciding to get tested or not to make a 'large' difference.
As Stalin allegedly said "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic."

I hope this proves successful, so much easier than having a jab and absolutely perfect for those with a serious needle phobia.

Not that we have any big enough events in Dover, but I see the national media are reporting that from October, "Vaccine Passports" will be required for large events?
Should be an interesting challenge....

It'll need a vote. And that means there should be a parliamentary challenge from anyone in the HoC with (metaphorical) balls and an independent mind (which leaves N. Elphicke and her bland Blairite accomplices out), and not totally in thrall to a state which is collecting power like a dunghill collects dung. Alas, there are only a few Conservative MPs who are actually conservative and will vote against it, and the official 'opposition' will either sit on the fence or go with the government (since it will be happy to have such powers itself if it ever gets to form a government).
The main challenge will come from outside parliament.

WGS. The main challenge will come from those who simply do not like being told what to do regardless of whether the rule/law is for the benefit of the majority or not. The ones I feel sorry for are those who can not be vaccinated because of medical reasons and the overworked medics who have to treat those who might have avoided the virus.
Having very recently had 11yr old and 1yr as well as two vaccinated adults members of my very close family contact covid I admit I am prejudiced having spent roughly ten days of worrying about catching it myself.
