This is fantastic stuff. Boris Johnson thwarted at every turn. Whatever side of the Brexit debate you are on - it is surely a good thing that Parliament retains sovereignty, I mean, that, apparently, was what Brexit was all about!

Mind you, the Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition is going to have to come off the fence surely? I understand saying "no" to a General Election proposed by the PM is a matter of timing, but now to call for the latter's resignation seems a bit like saying "happy to stick with a Conservative administration, but please would you select a new leader".

If I were Boris right now, I would go to the Palace PDQ and tender the resignation of my entire government. Then HM the Q would summon JC and ask him to form a government. When he’s failed to get a vote of confidence through Parliament after 14 days the Queen would then dissolve Parliament (assuming she doesn’t give the Glib Dems a go too) and we would have a GE. Struggling on as a lame duck PM doesn’t do either Boris, his ‘party’ (such as it is) or the country any good at all.
The decent thing is to go now.

Boris can have his election whenever he likes, all he has to do is ask the EU for an extension to the 31 October date in order to facilitate one. Corbyn is right not to agree to one now.

Corbyn doesn’t want an election because he knows he will lose, and lose badly. Boris wants one because he now has nothing to lose and possibly much to gain. Even after the EU give us an extension (which is by no means certain) Jeremy will still find a reason to refuse an election, and manufacture plenty of fresh verbal contortions to justify his refusal.

the actull reason Corbyn dosent want a eletion now is the no deal is still on the table , limp dems are saying the same thing.
boris needs to pack his bags and bugger off to his south American estate.

What thwarts the Tories is unity (and their lack of). The EU has been unified throughout - 27 Countries - impressive. Equally, the domestic opposition parties are united against giving Johnson his election he needs as cover/excuse to 'accidentally' leave the EU. Conversely, the Tories will always be divided on the question of Europe.

Crisis, what crisis? Parliament continues to have confidence in the government because it has not voted to the contrary - a vote of no-confidence.
Although Mr Johnson reckoned there was sufficient time to debate a Brexit on Halloween, the Supreme Court ruled there should be more time including (or, arguably, particularly) for that sort of thing and so the Brexit debate can now go to extra time:
"Lady Hale said: 'This prolonged suspension of Parliamentary democracy took place in quite exceptional circumstances: the fundamental change which was due to take place in the Constitution of the United Kingdom on 31st October.
'Parliament, and in particular the House of Commons as the elected representatives of the people, has a right to a voice in how that change comes about.'"
Whoopee-do, back to you guys then! Anyone for Theresa May's deal being brought before a new parliament?
(NB: As it happens, I do have two deckchairs but if you think I'm putting that lot in charge of the second one, you have another think coming!)

I see arrogant Johnson still believes he was in the right.
And so it rumbles on and on and on, plus going by media interviews the majority of MPs regardless of party loyalties still going against the referendum result. Democracy is dead.

Mm, I have to say I'm impressed by this:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/833286/what-haulier-drivers-should-do-moving-goods-through-rollon-rolloff-roro-locations-eu-to-uk.pdf
and this from KCC dated 12 September:
KCC has consistently argued that that Customs Stations for border readiness should be situated predominantly outside of Kent, to minimise disruption on the Kent road network and avoid the risk of freight in transit arriving at Kent ports without suitable customs paperwork, being turned away and drivers then having to search for the Customs Stations in Kent. However... government is currently consulting on Special Development Orders’ for sites at Ashford Truckstop and car park D at Ebbsfleet International railway station. Opportunities may also exist for temporary Customs Stations/Services to be set up across the motorway network outside of Kent. This would enable the checks on the border readiness of freight.
but not at all by this:
KCC’s Trading Standards team inspect goods crossing the UK border in Kent, and their new Ports Team based near the Port of Dover, comprising of five Port Import Compliance officers, was in place in March 2019. This was in response to a predicted increase in referrals. In the first quarter of 2019/20 the team dealt with a similar number of referrals to that of the entire 2018 period.

You could be right about the demise of democracy Jan. The signs are that we will be staying in the EU, so why not encourage them to speed up their plans for the United States Strasbourg Republic (USSR)..................... Hang on, hasn’t this acronym been used before to describe our other friends?
These are just some of the benefits that staying in could create:
Parliament and the House of Lords could be permanently prorogued saving m(b)illions of Euros.
The buildings where they attend part time now could be converted into full time housing with the salaries and expense account savings made.
Our parliamentarians could be sent to fight their battles in the European army and alongside our other conscripted population would still be able to travel the world, all expenses paid.
Education wise there would be the opportunity to speak many different languages.
We could learn how to go fruit picking and cultivate the fields to grow vegetables again.
............there’s so many opportunities to be had without the arguments that seem to prevail at this time.
Let ‘em know we mean business!
.......Oops! It’s already been done after we:

No we will still be leaving the EU with no deal if necessary on October 31st and boris hasn't done anything wrong those judges have been paid to say its unlawful and are remainers so there's petition to over turn the bias judges decision and I would tell Boris to appeal because those judges are remainers so it was unfair

4558: why bother? Boris said he did what he did, not because of Brexit (for which there was going to be plenty of debating time in October), but because he wanted parliament to get on with other, exciting things.

Mind you, I seem to recall that Churchill was given pretty short shrift by the electorate once the field of human conflict looked to be quietening down. So, enough of this Black Knight stuff - let's have Brexit on Halloween, GE directly after and a smidge of Gunpowder Plot for a salutary good measure?
Question for Pablo: do you know whether, were we to join EFTA, we would thereby have an instant preferential trading relationship with the EU (basically without their say-so)?

#4565, yes we would, conditional upon accepting all EFTA t&c including the 4 freedoms. In the single market but outside the customs union, so queues still likely at borders.
