With the cut backs and everyone having to tighten there belts this decision beggers belief.
They should have taken note of the independent panel.
Taking no notice of the independent body makes a mockery when the conservatives set there own rise

Many times the Independant panel recommended an increase for DDC Councillors but each time it was turned down and a few years back they all took a pay cut. When our nurses pay award is turned down words fail me

Greedy barstewards is the phrase that springs to mind, not bad money for what is a part time job.

I understand meetings are during the daytime, not sure how many meetings non cabinet members have to attend. Keith will know as a former Kent County Councillor.

This is astonishing.
I know loads of councillors at every level, some I like and respect, others can barely tie their shoelaces. John Heron and Peter Wallace are genuine, decent blokes, Ben Glayzer works his socks off, Bob Frost for all his foibles is a good egg. I think that covers all parties.
I've a question to those who contribute on here (mainly to tell us how wonderful they are):
What do you actually DO?

Not that it has anything to do with you what I "DO" I will tell you.
Being a 74yr young disabled woman I now "DO" sweet F A but sit on my keyboard a lot and read how some sneer and have a go at those who keep us informed and those who like myself no longer "DO".

I do hope our two KCC members for Dover Town voted against the pay increase?i.If not I shall expect great things from them In Dover we have a food bank soup kitchen and a form of night shelter.Derlict shops. Paving slab need. replacing on the York Street roundabout and Maison Dieu road needs resurfacing ,and of our buses need to be saved from cuts . Mr Little when I first went on the Council I had to pay for my son to be looked after whilst I was at meetings .

With Day Centres for the elderly shutting (not Dover, Folkestone and Whitstable spring to mind) due to lack or uncertainty of funding I think their actions begger belief.

The quicker we split Kent into Unitary Authorities the better.
A KCC councillor for Dartford has no idea what goes on in Dover and vice versa.

The Folkestone one closed as the building was not fit for purpose Ken, I believe they will be opening up again somewhere else fairly soon.

Apparently Keith was on Radio Kent criticising the rise in allowances, I don't know if anyone on here heard the interview.

sue, if its the 2 tory councilors they probably voted for it. but would have liked a 25%rise back dated to Christmas 2013.

Howard, the building has been 'fit for purpose' until now and they are not reopening elsewhere, the users will be relocated to other centres as will Whitstable users. Dover at this time and in the future is not under threat.

According to this article Age UK decided to close the centre and KCC say there is no problem with funding.
