I have just watched the Full KCC Council meeting. This is where they decided on a pay increase .Sadly tneir votes are recorded electronically but I have been advised five of the County members who represent this area voted for the increase and two were absent.I had to smile as the meeting concluded Chsirmsn invited them to join him for lunch.
What a terrible kick in the teeth for all our hard working N H S staff Just an side six of those KCC members also are District Councilors and dome of them hold cabinet posts
How can they justify council increases when many struggle to pay these. The world is full of greed and very little compassion

I know loads of councillors at every level, some I like and respect, others can barely tie their shoelaces. John Heron and Peter Wallace are genuine, decent blokes, Ben Glayzer works his socks off, Bob Frost for all his foibles is a good egg. I think that covers all parties.
I've a question to those who contribute on here (mainly to tell us how wonderful they are):
[B]What do you actually DO?

KCC councillors on the right appear happy with their pay award and have even offered to give the nurse on the left a lift to the food bank.

You have to give the conservative leader on KCC his due, although his allowance if agreed will rise to nearly £60,000
he was also justifying the rise to nearly £15,000 for every county councillor.
The trouble with is that you could if you so wanted only attend 1 meeting every 6months and still get the full £15,000.
It is a very difficult one, it would be interesting to see why(if they did) our county cllrs voted for the rise.
I understand our 2 county cllrs are both retired, and the presenter of Radio Kent indicated that by small allowances only those with money, unemployed, or retired would be able to put themselves forward.
The presenter(Lempic?) said when he served on Newcastle council he got £40 amonth

Cllr Sansum, you've been a town, district and county councillor for many years, like you I'm a great believer in transparency. How much have you been paid in your various roles?

Just to clarify Keith he was a former Lib Dem called Lemsip Opik who was more famous for his sexual escapades at the time, a great decongestive though it has to be said.

When you think Kent County Council are making essential services like the Riverside Centre for AgeUK.
Tender for their funding, which is being cut to the bone.
Centres like this provide a lunch, which could be the only meal a day. Also, a place to meet and sometimes this is the only company available all day for our Elderly. Subsidies for travel, and transport have been cut to the bone too. So our Elderly have to make extra top up payments from their meager pensions. Placing vulnerable elderly people into poverty.
It is a scandal.

Day care centre for the elderly where they can spend day chatting to each other, grab a bite to eat and not worry about the cost of heating, closing down?
I thought for a wonderful moment you meant County Hall.

Its even more amusing when our Dover County Member (Mr Collor) attempts to justify the 15% rise.
At least Cllr Beresford stayed away to save having to vote for it
still wonder if she dd go to the meeting would she have voted for it?

The whole situation is surreal, imagine starting a job on terms agreed with your new employer and then after a week or so asking for a pay rise. Cosy little cartel up in Maidstone now and answerable to nobody. The ones who abstained are even worse than those who voted for a rise as they knew they would get it and not have to explain why they voted for it.

What I also find amusing, is after going on radio Kent, a lib Dem county Cllr followed and voted against the rise.
When lempic asked if he would still therefore take the rise, he was pressed many times, he at no point said he wouldn't take it.
Carter I feel is hopeful doing this in the first week people will forget, but I don't think these days they will.
But we are in a stitched up situation now, the Tories were clever in putting forward better arguments on why boundaries should change
You can see clearly the intention was to get solid control of the KCC
It's not in the interest's of democracy, but we are where we are.
Hopefully other parties cllrs still remaining on DDC/DTC will start to engage and attempt to win back seats, and build upon recent results.
If not, heading towards a near one party state is helpful to no one.

After county councillors voted themselves a 15% increase at their last meeting KCC cancels the next due to 'lack of business'
You couldn't make it up!
