Probably a “kiss of death “ but I would hope Graham Wanstall gets a chance at Mayor of Dover during his four year term. He has done a lot for Dover. Would be popular I feel .

Not in the slightest. I've nothing against the chap but if he's the best we can do in terms of leadership, then that might go some way to explaining why the town is where it is today. Apart from a plaque in the subway, what exactly are the wonderous things he has brought to the town?

Not when you think about some of his media pictures, i am mainly thinking of that dressing gown one.
I doubt many of Dover's population care who is mayor or could even name the last few unless they are politically minded.

I agree with Paul .This man has the Community at heart .A great campaigner .Very polite.Famous for his Christmas Tree in the window event.Sad that people remember the dressing gown event .I recall he was very unwell but he was so intent that the flag should be flown. He also does a lot of research .
He would be a better bet than some .Hear you have a previous Leader of DDC and former Chairman .We have got to know these people.
If he is unsure he looks to people he can trust .

I don't know about him having the community at heart. I certainly don't consider it polite to enter someone's house without knocking and uninvited, presumably because he thought he knew me, to distribitute his election material. From the few pub conversations I 've had with him, I've had scant evidence of any research whatsoever.

Sue.
My point in #29 was remember the Rix image that hit the media headlines, do we really want similar negative media attention yet again for the town. I do not know the man so like many others can only go by what I read on here or elsewhere.

I think the next few weeks will decide if the
Tories , greens , Indies can hold on to the admin .
They have been here before running the council only to all fall out with each other letting labour back in .

Sorry but the town council is only a parish council which Dover cannot afford the amount of funds to keep it going it only as power over the 200 allotments the public of Dover should pick the mayor .

It's an interesting discussion - the concept of devolution. Does the public actually want it? Do they want decision making being taken at such a local level? Parish Council, Town Council, Borough Council, District Council, County Council etc...

Let's be honest the vast majority of residents do not care who the mayor is as it is a purely ceremonial role with no power to do anything. Sue Jones has done it before without any mishaps & will carry it off well this time too.
On a more serious note DTC is a parish council yet has the highest precept of any parish in the district, all so we can have an expensive town clerk & a team of staff. Yet we have two of the worst wards for urban deprivation in the district as part of that parish. Surely the town council should be looking to rein in its spending so that they can significantly reduce their precept? Especially as their only statutory duties are the management of allotments & public clocks.

The town parish council gets more cash in their precept then all the other parish councils put together just for looking after allotments some which they have sold off for housing get rid of them and save alot of cash for things like filling in pot holes
or geting rid of rubbish.

I'll be honest - we have an allotment at Maxton. Or I should say my partner has an allotment as she pays the annual bill and does all the work. I do get to make a sumptious rhubarb cordial twice a year though. Apart from that, I have no dealings with DTC whatsover. Their influence in planning is negligible. The town clerk was instrumental in getting £360k transferred to a bogus charity which has subsequently done sweet FA. I'm sure my money could be better spent elsewhere.
