Drive against tax evaders.Prosecutors are preparing for a fresh drive against tax consultants ( finance
johnnies ) pushing evasion schemes for middle- class professionals the Director of Public
Prosecutors has said.
Kier Starmer QC said it is to take on five times as many tax files in an attempt to target tax cheats
who cost each household £ 533 a year.
The CPS secured 200 hundred tax convictions in 2010,but is now preparing to handle 1,500 tax
files a year by 2014-15.Some cases have involved lawyers and Tax Consultants.

A very big yawn this. The age old push-pull between the the two sides. It will never end until we get some common sense into the system with lower and simpler taxes.
Are you suggesting that it is somehow wrong to take legal measure to protect your own assets Keith?

Even Osbourne pretends he thinks these loopholes need tightening up, thus he recognises people feel theres a problem

Since when has common sense had anything to do with politics or those involved with it as both sides of centre always believe they are correct in their thinking.

Politics isn't common sense its about disagreeing with the other side, even if you don't
I read loads of arguments on here, I read very few solutions.

Keith - name a chancellor who has not said (and acted) to tighten up on what you call 'loopholes'.
It goes on and on and all chancellors forever more will say just that and try it. Each time the system gets more complex and, guess what - more and more ways to legally reduce the tax burden arise...
As I said this war will never end until we get a simple low tax system.
Once again though you did not answer my question though. Put it another way - do you deliberately pay more tax than you legally need to or do you ensure that you tax affairs are arranged in the best way to minimise tax? More fool you if you don't.
All taxpayers have ways to do this, it is not just for the rich.

Change the system?
So what are your suggestions to change the system Keith.
I have given many over the years.
The easiest thing to do is say the system has to be changed with saying how. From what you are saying you might actually think that Chancellors have not tried that before!

There might be 2000 plus posts but I bet that very few, possibly less than 100 are relevant or informative, the rest being tit for tat or posting just for the sake of it.

Something must be done. I think we are all agreed on that.

PETER;
On that we agree
JAN;
My point is, if people find it a bore, they wouldn't post on it, and it would die
this hasnt happened in fact those that say they find it a bore often post
if i dont like a post/or have no interest i dont post on it
