Can someone explain what the issue is with Momentum? Don't they just support the same politics as Jeremy Corbyn? I thought they were all about anti-austerity and for a change to the status quo. As for the anti-semitism issue, didn't Liberty's Chakrabati report on that? I think the press ought to look at ALL parties, if anything this is a society problem... are you seriously suggesting that Tories and UKIP are beyond reproach? (Recalls Zac Goldsmith's London Mayoralty campaign and far too many UKIP atrocities.)

Ms Chakrabarti as was completely exonerated the Labour Party of anti-semitism in her independent report within 5 minutes she became Baroness Chakrabarti - pure coincidence of course.

Research her background, I think you'll find she more than deserves a peerage (whether you agree with the system or not is another thing - I personally do not). Then compare her to Samantha Cameron's fashion advisor who made Dodgy Dave's exiting PM honours - pure coincidence of course.

I like the principle of giving honours but a hell of a lot go to croanies and those who were simply doing a well paid for job, not enough to those deserving recognition.

I do despair of Cruella and Jezza, the former doesn't seem to understand about the four freedoms that no country can cherry pick from - one day she thinks we can, the next we can't. The latter has now decided that he will take on UKIP by insisting that recruiting solely from overseas and a couple of other things will be stopped under his reign. He then goes on to say that this will "probably cut immigration" but he is still insisting that uncontrolled immigration is a good thing. Paul Nuttall must be loving it.

Hm, when did she suggest we could? (Maybe she did, but one does tend to lose track.)

I have come to the conclusion Howard will find nothing good to say about our top national politicians but will side with certain local ones if they show an interest in his ward.

A trifle unfair Jan I think Phil and Jamie, sorry I meant Charlie is a great national figure and got us a hospital. I have even given thought to voting for him -finished thinking now and I won't.

Couple of points;
1; momentum is coming forward like UKIP as an alternative to main stream politics
the only difference being momentum has infiltrated the labour party and if there momentum members were honest the are much like the derek Hatton days(militant)set to take over the party again.
2; I'm unsure to jan's comments regarding howard He may be controversial and some MP(not named)is watching him closely lol but he does often congratulate positive items.
There are good MP's in all the parties, the sad thing is there are not many of them.

I think the Looney militants have long taken over the he Labour Party headed and led by the main man, Corbyn. I'm sure they'd be more than delighted to be compared to Hatton, in private at least.
RIP the Labour Party.

Labour have been written off before, all through the 80s and the first half of the 90s they looked a lost cause then Tony Blair came along and they had 13 years in charge. Just a matter of getting a credible leadership again.

I think Momentum(many ex militant party members) were underestimated by everyone.
Obviously T May underestimated Labour in general because it had been failing like All the major parties to engage.
Momentum together with J Corbyn filled this gap even in the short term, Corbyn engaging is not something he finds difficult, he is well able to speak to any audience as he showed in the fire in London, something that T May showed she couldn't.
So he gained on this, and moving with the times, Momentum engaged with the young, and used social media in a big way, and was and is revitalising politics.
That's not to say you have to agree with the politics, but the general election showed that Momentum managed to get people on board even with the national media against Labour.
Is it all good news though?
Having been through the years of the Militant party infiltrating into the Labour party 30 years or so ago, anyone that doesn't remember these days should look up N Kinnocks labour party conference speech on Derek Hatton on Liverpool council and sacking notices being sent out by them.
I joined labour 30/35 years ago when the Militant party was strong and had taken over every branch in Dover/Deal lots of unknown names suddenly joined party turned up at branch meetings and took over branch's in numbers.
When I checked a few out they lived Buckinghamshire or miles and miles away,
Warfare took place, for at least 2 years where the party was taken over.
Were they democratic? no, if they didn't get the majority vote they set up executive committee's putting just there own people on them then overturned democratic decisions made by branch's.
Worse than this I witnessed militant activists following other members not on the left of the party, followed home, abused, and in some cases assaults.
The party went through this trauma and eventually many militant party members were expelled
but I noticed in a recent momentum paper that they are campaigning for the reinstatement of all militant party members back into the labour party.
Labour party rules don't allow you to be a member of another party.
Without doubt we have seen a big change in politics, just like UKIP when it had its 5 minutes(now finished as a party)
Momentum though are here to stay, and without doubt very organised across the country, and also in the unions.
So they have many power bases.
So some interesting times ahead with the Tories in turmoil ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
