True Howard but that's not 24% of conservative party members, in that respect he got close to 100% selective statistics are just that selective.

The blues will not win over the Drs the way they are going at this time ,my son-in-law is a hos/consultant and has been working at weekends for years and callouts on top of that and most consultants do the same they need to work and help them, by bringing: out new laws to make them work at weekends will only upset them even more then they are already ,they can pack the job in tomorrow and move on to a better post outside the N.H.S.

I doubt anyone is suggesting that they work longer hours than they do now, just a case of cutting death rates by spreading consultants over 7 days.

We've got to educate the population not to get ill 'out of hours.' Victor.

As for the comment you made, which I have highlighted, despite many being trained at a high cost by the NHS they are doing well in the private sector as well, sometimes working at week ends too!
I think the idea is to spread the resources rather than stretch them any further.
Sunday trading means many can choose to shop and/ or work 7 days a week.........
Nobody chooses bad health to fit the times when expert care may be available.
Do nothing and nothing happens.

Not all consultants work in the private sector as well as the N.H.S. my son-in -law being one he works in the N.H.S. and that is all he works like others long hrs +call out at all hrs yes he is well paid but it takes many years hard work to get to be a consultant it does not come on a plate but most drs work many hrs over 7days in the hos/and GP,We still have the best NHS in the world for all, not just the rich like some overseas. And still getting better all the staff working for the NHS do a good job but I still think most staff are under pay and seeing what the MPs gave themselfs today a etc £7000 per year makes me fill sick to the bone and they will not vote that the NHS staff get any pay rise.Again looking after themselfs and not caring about the rest.

If on call out I suspect he will be paid extra, I have a family member who quite likes being on call out as she is paid extra.
I think all regular readers on here who have read his past postings know that Vic is blind to faults within the NHS.

I had my knee replacement done on a Sunday seven years ago at QEQM at Margate. I was in the Spencer Wing which is private but it was done under the NHS.

My wife has had several consultants' appointments and her hip replaced on Sundays but the hospital corridors are always reminiscent of the Marie Celeste. My feeling is that they only do it to keep waiting lists within target ranges in order to meet the doctors' KPIs, not for better customer care.

My late partner had cancer and every so often she had to go into hospital. One Saturday morning I arrived at the William Harvey to find her reeling in agony so I rushed around to find a doctor and eventually came across a nurse sitting down with a "Take a break" magazine, she grudgingly said she would be down in a minute. Ten minutes later she arrives and says "would you like a paracetamol"? this despite the board at the bottom of the bed stating that she was on morphine. When I asked for a doctor to intervene she said there wasn't any on duty.

People are taken ill regardless of the day of the week so the NHS should revolve around a seven day working week basis.

Good on him more need to talk out against Mr Hunt in the same,he needs to have a rethink on how he is talking to all N.H.S. STAFF in the light of his own pay rise last week of over £7000 per year and he does not put in the hours they do, and does not have life in his hands just a MP that is all he is a MP not even a tradesman of any kind and no DR.

Had some blood tests taken at the K & C on Monday and was told by the consultant to ring his secretary today to get the results. Just rang and she told me that it is not allowed to give any test results over the phone, they have the results and he may look at them some time next week!!

They will never give results out over a phone, if the secretary told you that then she was wrong. If there had been something very wrong with you they would have acted right away.

I have a PSA (Prostate cancer) blood test every three months and when I ring the surgery they always give me the results and reading. (Peter St. surgery).

The consultant told me ring his secretary even wrote down her number for me, the secretary sounded like one of those harridan receptionists in 1980 GP surgeries everywhere, Claiming that the consultant a "MR" not a "DT had no right to give number out.
Like Alec my surgery has no problem discussing test results over the phone, if all OK no point in wasting GP time with an appointment.
