You just can't get the staff! (Especially on discretion, it's leaking like a sieve, time to put the lock back on the photocopier methinks)
The fifties eh?
Twenty odd years ago a foreign language at at least 'O' level(ish), plus two 'A' levels were required for the role of immigration officer (and similar for the equivalent grade across the civil service) iirc.
Source: Me twenty odd years ago. Advertisements for immigration officer jobs were everywhere. Looked at these jobs after having attended university via an access course (i.e. without the requisite 'A' levels). Was therefore deemed "under qualified", despite having technically exceeded the educational requirements.
Prior to that, didn't the civil service had their own internal exams for important (e.g. senior/manager/officer) positions?
Now that every person and their dog is encouraged to go to university, the application forms I look at appear to be all "competency based". I read this as "Can you talk a good game?". Given this current fiasco and the way the Home Office have dealt with it, it is clearly an incompetent system.
Oops. I may have metaphorically picked the lock on the photocopier for a moment. I can hear Social Media Guidelines alarms going off.

Immigration Officers still require 2 A levels to gain entry into Border Force. A few years back they increased that to requiring a Degree too but the quality of applications were so poor they removed the requirement.

Here we go again a desperate shortage of Doctors and the Home Office want to kick one out on a technicality and use the usual line about drawing on our home grown pool of talent first.
Where are all these unemployed Doctors?

Just saying...
The Muslim Council of Britain has reiterated a call for the Conservatives to launch an independent inquiry into alleged Islamophobia within the party.
The MCB has repeatedly demanded an investigation, and says there are now "more than weekly incidents" involving Tory candidates and representatives. Source:

Another example of the Home office not being fit for purpose.

Rubbish Howard. Half the world would like to come here to set up a private business.
The guy has not fulfilled the requirements under the Immigration Rules (and I'm truly surprised that they only require an investment of £50,000) so he should go.

I can see both sides of this argument, if he does not meet the present criteria he should go.
On the other hand he apparently provides a much needed physiotherapy service, although I could not see any mention of NHS work in the article only private practice.
As he is simply here to make money he is possibly depriving a legal physiotherapist opening a practice in Dover.
As an aside 80 patients a week does not seem very many considering I expect each session is 30 minutes

Based on his statement and your quote...simple maths: 80 patients each getting a half hour session = 40 hours. Divide 40 by 5 days = 8 working hours; it would seem that the clinic is full considering he is entitled to a lunch-break. If we put it into a Mon-Fri context, the clinic would be 9am-6pm to include a lunch hour and no other breaks.

Very true your right rev. he does say he has not had a day off in three years though so I guess he spreads that over the 7, doesnt sound unreasonable but if he doesnt make the criteria then he shoukd be kicked out.

According to the article he has been advertising for staff but qualified people want to work in London which I can believe. I used to use the Dentist surgery in Castle street and the staff turnover was ridiculous with Dentists taking a job there only until a vacancy arose in the capital.
