A bit of a shame that the councilor (who remains an Aylesham Parish Councilor) did not hang on for a couple more months on DDC so that the by-election could be held at the same time as the KCC elections which would have saved us all a bit of money?

Indeed it is Tommy Johnstone the party deselected the sitting Councillor to push him forward.

A loss to the Council Chamber IMHO.
Young (and with a lot to learn), but enthusiastic and not yet another set in his/her ways dinosaur using their allowance to top up their pension, adding little to the debate and merely cannon fodder to vote along pre agreed party lines.

Published today the Sustainability & Transformation Plan for Kent & Medway.
Title: Transforming health & social care in Kent.
This supposed to be the big statement document about how to bring NHS finances into balance & transfer more services from hospitals into improved community facilities..
The implication of the document for hospital services is a new centralised site likely to be Canterbury with Ashford & Margate concentrating on specialised services. Bed reductions follow increased community & social care numbers relieving hospital services.
It includes a mental health review.
There is an online survey document accompanying the document.

The only thing I will say is, that the labour leaflet in priory was very critical of tories resigning mid term.

Labour win in North Deal with 605 votes against the Tories 492 - turn out 22%.
By-Elections for Parish and District in Aylesham will be held on the 22nd December.

Word has reached me that young Tommy in Aylesham was a victim of an internal feud led by his fellow District councillor that didn't like being upstaged by a callow youth, more news as it comes in.

Word reached me that he started well but some of his f/book posting maybe whilst under the influence of alcohol? and pictures didn't do much to help his cause.
Deal Town council only appears to have a few seats majority(labour this time)and all we seem to read in local rags is about the two main parties one fighting the other.
It's about time party politics was taken out of town councils

Even in Deal the leading lights can't even agree one staying away so that another conservative was outvoted by labour(by 1 vote) so he wasn't able to be mayor.
The sooner party politics is taken out of Town councils the better, but sadly I can't see that happening.
So, moving back to the Elms vale Maxton priory by election it appears labour are still licking there wounds, although I agree I was probably well known in the ward and around all the year round,
Where they may be misguided is that some believe, had I not stood they would have won.
We should catch our breath here, labour didn't come second they came third, behind an unknown conservative in large parts of the ward, who only did a few leaflets in the last few days before the election.
Who can say had I not stood these votes would have gone to labour ?
What I can say is that this should be a wake up call,
on the doorstep there were people and quite a lot at that, that had real hate for labour both nationally and locally.
Although I will always firmly believe that party politics has no role in Town councils, what would I do if I were labour?
1; have a proper investigation into what went wrong
2;find local living candidates
3; get involved in local communities all the year round
The conservative candidate was really pleased with her result and I'm sure will stand again but do a lot more next time round.
The ward deserves local living candidates with an interest in the ward all the year round.

Hello Capt
can't change it now but your correct, they are all alive(as far as I know lol)
Keith B
Oncethe officers locally of UKIP stop argueing with each other then they may well consider the policy on UKIP candidates in local elections.
At the moment it appears Ukip only allows candidates to use the UKIP name on District councils andabove.
They are unable to stand as UKIP candidates on town councils.
So we are seeing Active UKIP cllrs and members standing as independents in Town council elections.
but of course keith you would know all this

Pity that neither candidate standing in Aylesham actually lives there.
