Just to note that the Daily Mail (and Guardian) slightly missed PoD's point about PAF's manning for coaches. What started as "...resulting in each coach taking 40 minutes to process" became "...coaches were at one point having to wait 40 minutes each". Of course, the first coach takes 40 mins, the second waits 40 mins and then takes another 40 mins to process, the third waits 80 mins etc etc.

Mr Elphicke has written an online piece:
http://www.conservativehome.com/platform/2016/07/charlie-elphicke-yet-again-the-government-has-been-caught-napping-by-travel-chaos-at-dover.html
Great ideas and right on Charlie but, there's no money right? Where's the magic money tree going to come from?

People are being advised not to travel on the Saturday but usually such advice falls on deaf ears. I am wondering whether we will get back up from the UK Border force but I believe there are problems at Heathrow so they are needed there.

I would have thought that it's going to be a tad difficult to supply me with water from a helicopter, or for me to spend a penny, if I'm queuing for juxtaposed French immigration controls in a tunnel. In essence what we had was interception of 100% of outbound vehicles, by a border agency, to perform checks on something, that involved scanning documents - in this case cars/coaches, PAF, people and passports. Something perhaps for Mr Davis to ponder before it becomes lorries, UKBF, goods and carnets.

If you build a tunnel through Dover to the port DTIZ will be just as dead as the high street is now.

I would rather have a tunnel than some kind of bridge.
The ideal solution would be a cross country road to link up with Jubilee Way but that option was ignored previously in favour of the present awful eyesore of a road.

I don't suppose a tunnel will ever become a reality as no government is likely to be bold or imaginative enough nor prepared to commit the amount of money necessary. Perhaps they could access EU funding to support it......oh!
However, if you look at pictures of Boston (USA) before and after the 'Big Dig' where they took traffic underground and created green, public accessible spaces where the roads were, the transformation has been impressive. Imagine Townwall and Snargate reduced to single carriageway and green, walkways in the space where the other carriageway was. It would do much to reconnect the town with the seafront, would be a draw for visitors and benefit to residents and shoppers alike.
Sadly, since they can't afford to repair potholes on our roads from 5 winters ago, I can't see this project being a runner.

We are still in the EU and will be for the best part of 3 years so they could still part fund such a project.
If they decide to stop backing projects in the UK it would even better as we could then stop paying in which would leave us a lot better off.
