Like Chris Everyone I speak to and I do chat to lots of people no one is in favour of the screen .I received a couple of calls yesterday and the big screen came into the conversation .Each time comment was" Waste of money and what were my fellow councillors thinking of "
I was talking about you yesterday Chris and the comment was "You at least walk about travel on buses and speak to people anf get the views of the locals "
The cabinet agenda is interesting today .Yet more money going to the Northern part of the district that is if it is approved .
One of my arguements against the screen ,that money could have been used elsewhere .Officer time etc counts as money .We need the empty shops tidied up but no that has been put back .

As I mentioned before, I am not really for it as it is the wrong place, but give it a try.... the costs are peanuts in the grand scheme of things, be it £10k a year that is not really worth arguing about.
Been nice knowing you :)

Brian no such thing as a frebbie .
Jeez - it's a telly, a big one in the middle of the town. I don't give a rats rally whether we have it or not, but I resent the persistent resistance to anything new or innovative in town. It might be a flop, it might be a real boon and attract people to the town centre. Whatever attracts people to the town centre runs the risk of encouraging bad behaviour, so the argument that IF it brings people in (horrors!!) it will mean they behave badly. They already do!!! Dover is being flushed down the pan by drag-their-feet backward-looking padlock-pursed frowning self absorbed politicians and it really is time we stopped griping and DID SOMETHING POSITIVE!!!!!!

All these comments about whether we should or shouldn't have passed the big-screen at the Planning Committee and whether it will be a benefit or not to Dover, I thought it may be useful, as you are talking about "backwoodsmen" and "drag-their-feet backward-looking padlock-pursed frowning self absorbed politicians", that ALL the Conservative Councillors voted for it (I must admit at first I had big reservations about it, but the more I found out (by asking questions), the more I came to think it would be good for Dover) and ALL the Labour Councillors voted against it - odd really, but there you go.
I must agree that it is making a real mess down in the Market Square and can't be doing those nearby businesses any good whatsoever - hope it will when it's working.

dover will not move forward whilst the petty party stuff mentioned by roger there carries on.
most of us see good and active councillors, the others not so good.
i have never seen susans's opposition to it as a conservative thing or john goodwin's support as a labour thing.
It really isn't party political, and I have to add I don't see the telly as a barometer of taste of pizzaz. I just see time and time again the people who should be out there go-getting for Dover scrapping and sniping among themselves and denying the existence of the 21st century.

Are you telling me Bern that the war is over and I can get rid of my tin helmet. No surely not our worthy leaders would have come together, by now and worked out a plan to rebuild parts of the town.

Trouble is Howard by 2035 I shall be in an urn on the mantelpiece and the proposed re-generation 60 years old and out-of-date.
By 2035 there will be no mantelpieces in Dover - there will be nothing much at all!!! You may have to find alternative accomodation Dave1.

Roger
As usual you turn a non political item into a political one, and again even get your facts wrong!!!
The big screen was NOT voted for by all conservatives at the full council as 3 abstained and 1 we all know voted against it(and has since been sacked from her cabinet post)
lots of labour cllrs voted for it
So don't make such an item political, it isn't.
And as you know the planning committee is not supposed to run along political grounds.
Lets have the debate about if the screen is good for Dover or not, far better
