Iv'e read the first few postings and the last few postings.
Has it been proved yet that a Fox did it?
A Fox on the second floor of an occupied building?
Have all of the details come out yet?
Sounds a bit like Jaws to me.
I go shooting regularly, had a fox in my sights very often but I never will shoot one.

It will come as no surprize that I support MAREK and his view agains fox hunting.
Fox hunting may well reduce numbers by a very very small amount, but will never control numbers, even the hunting person would tell you that.
The cruelty in fox hunting to just give a little joy to those who I presume enjoy killing is not enough to convince me fox hunting should again become legal.
As marek says leaving doors open invites foxs to go in, but worse criminals to
Will be interesting to see how this cobbled together govt deal with this one as Mr Cameron has masde it a priority in his 5 years to repeal this legislation, not sure Lib Dems so p[ro hunting
That said they have shown they dont have to many principles when it comes to Govt.

Correction Keith - he has not made this any kind of priority.
He has offered a free vote at some time during this parliament. That is not a priority.
As I have pointed out before one of the first acts of Hitler on taking power was to ban fox hunting.
The difference is that he did not take over 700 hours of parliamentary time to so it whilst screwing up the economy at the same time!

Bob
Hitler may have banned fox hunting so as to devote more time to Jew hunting and although he may not have wasted 700 hours of parliamentry time he did waste vast areas of the continent and cost the lives of millions whilst screwing up Germany and other European countries.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)

Banning fox hunting was another nail in the coffin of rural Britain and damaged a lot of people's livelihoods, DT1. For what gain, exactly? So that a few foxes die in a trap or from poisoning or shooting instead? That's about the only 'positive' I can see.
Meanwhile it is typical New Labour/urbancentric misconception that foxhunting is the pursuit purely of the upper classes. If you followed the odd fox hunt, as I did as a child, you would have seen that. This country is actually the poorer for the loss of this tradition.
Maybe if some of these do-gooders had seen the state of a chicken coup after a fox attack they may have a different view on this creature.
If it is silly in your opinion, so what? Since when was being silly grounds for making it illegal? Who are you to make a judgement on that? Many types of religion, or sport, or other leisure pursuits might be described as silly. Do we outlaw those too?
England is now a hopelessly over-urbanised country, which is as much a state of mind as anything else - possibly more cut off from nature than anywhere else on earth.
Reverse the ban.

You make it very clear Andrew this is about tradition, which is my very point. Tradition is not a reason to keep something. I have followed a fox hunt and witnessed some rather crass human behaviour...some would say silly, but then that's a matter of opinion.
I have said in everyone of my posts 'I don't like foxes'. I wouldn't even regard myself as a 'chicken do-gooder' as I quite like eating them, some probably from rather poor conditions.
On outlawing, there was a huge public demand, a pretty good reason.
As for those people who lost their jobs, as I have said employ them to kill the foxes. Just to keep it silly they could possbily do it on pogo sticks whilst playing kazoos. (some may find this normal)

i cannot find any sympathy for the people employed to break a leg or two of a fox to give the hunters an easier ride.

I'v always found you to be a nice kind of guy, but on this one i'm afraid I have to say something.
If it's just about tradition (barryw knows my opinion on this) then you could re employ all those people involved in blood sports to take part in drag hunting.
Thay way you get the same people employed, and all the traditions can remain, chasing a scent.
But I suspect that would not be enough for hunters they want the fox ripped apart in the name of SPORT???
Clearly BAZ David has it in his sights to repeal the ban as he did speak often on it prior to the election.
KEEP THE BAN
Keith, I agree, drag hunting should suffice. However, we may encounter union trouble with that notion.
Equity will clearly seek to protect threatened drag artists. Worse still, they will probably roll out Lily Savage and Danny La Rue to get some publicity for their cause!

I also meant to say, I'd prefer this government ("cobbled together" for the Labour posters) to repeal the stupid Major inspired act on fire arm ownership. All the homegrown firearm tragedy's have been caused by licensed holders yet the real problem is the black gun culture prevalent in the inner cities. Major's law has done zilch to combat that problem, however, it has caused a problem for honest gun club members. In fact our Olympic shooters now have to keep guns abroad and go overseas to train. Madness.
Put some teeth into the judicial system and lock up for very very lengthy sentences those caught dealing/using/holding unlicensed firearms.

the suggestion that we will lose olympic medals because of out gun laws is wrong.
serious shooters go to a gun club, practice then go home without a gun.
why would anyone want to carry a gun around with them, they could lose it, or worse their kids could find it at home and play with it.
I used to shoot competitively at Bishopsgate Police Station some years back. The range, in the basement of the station was quite extensive and included glass cabinets displaying various types of firearm taken in the course of solving crimes. There were also displays of foreign pistols, including Mauser, Luger and a Magnum!
When the law changed, these had to put out of sight and into a non-firing situation even thoughg they were in lockable cabinets in the secure firing range in the basement of a Police Station.
Tell me that isn't stupid and why?
Life for many legitimate gun clubs and gun owners was made intolerable, but we still haven't dealt with the illicit gun culture. To me, that makes an ass of the law and it should be repealed..

Be careful, Brian - chief attack hound Keef is on your scent and he will tear you to pieces. I've already gone to ground
Keef, I'm not in favour of a fox cull actually and support a number of wildlife charities - I am no animal basher by any means. I just think there are far worse abuses of animals to worry about, considering the relatively small number of foxes affected. Poisoning and trapping can be worse and slower deaths.
Anyway at the present rate of destruction of the countryside there will soon only be urban foxes left...
