Just to let people know that I spoke to the Town Council today, the plan had been to reopen the Charlton Green area on the 1st of october, but has been delayed untill the broken tree branches have been cleared away, and the sign post which had been ripped up from its place by the gate sorted.
Hopefully when that is done this week i,m told it will be open to the public once again.

I see the town council has announced that the lawn will be open again on 1 October. Surely it's up to all of us to keep an eye on it and make sure yobs (and others) don't cause any more damage or anti-social behaviour.

Well very glad we were able to bring to the attention of the Dover Town Council the state the area was in as of right now. It appears they were unaware of the broken branches and the general debris ..and the fact that the concrete based signpost had been uprooted and chucked over the riverside railings. As mentioned previously that took some doing.
It is only a relatively short time ago this area was officially opened in flagship style.

Bit of a lost cause now as the Town Council lost interest after the original photo call.

Perhaps DTC should provide an annual sum to a local community group to maintain it?

Wasn't that area supposed to be maintained by Morrison's as part of its planning agreement?

Maybe if it was not fenced along the path it might be used more and not regarded by some as a no go waste area.
I remember some thought Morrisons should adopt it but I think that was all, it would have made a lovely seating area as an extension to the cafe.

I agree Jan,just after it opened I had discussion with the planner and I think someone from Morrisons suggesting the cafe opened up to that area .I had previously be to a Morrison in Essex and the cafe was lovely .I cannot understand why they donot use this space. An opportunity wasted.
I think that area may come under Ronnie Philpot and Pam Brivo not sure where Graham Wantstslls area starts.

I was told by a fairly reliable source about 18 months ago that the DTC management agreement for the area was with Netto, and that agreement hadn't been updated with the new owners since Netto left.
(The first response to my question asking who was responsible was "You don't want to know." My reply that got an answer was "I NEED to know." Being an out-of-towner at present I have to be diplomatic when dealing with DTC).
A big problem with the site is it's in the shade most of the day.

The round wooden artwork/seating is in the process of being destroyed into a skip.
Free wood anyone?
