Before the site was closed anybody could sleep on the grass would it have mattered that somebody might go to sleep on the bench and the locked gate prevents us all from going on their precious grass. The whole area is now a complete waste of space quite literally.

Just to bring this to the top of the page again, I have been in touch with DDC as this is their responsibility to empty the bin and keep the area clean, I had a phone call from them today to say that the bin would be emptied on a regular basics and the area kept clean, lets hope so but I will keep an eye on it.

I was in Morrisons cafe today & I am pleased to say that the bin has been emptied, but the grass could do with having all the leaves & the litter picked up... but we can not expect wonders.

But we should expect wonders Roger - we pay enough for them.

Do we?
And you are a councillor - why not ensure it is spent wisely and on the right things?

From Sue Nicholas on the Community Garden thread.
"There is a thread on the forum re the grassed area near Morrisons .A good idea now causing problems ."
Has anybody from the council approached Morrisons with a view to them taking over the litter clearing, as it is outside their cafe window I would have thought they could be interested.

I'm not a Town Councillor Ross.
I suggested that in post 16 Jan.
I think we pay enough for many services, but I also think that many of the services carried out by various contractors, are simply not good enough.

Looks like the previous canvassing to keep this area clean hasnt worked. This is how it looked today so the requests to DDC to keep it spic and span went unheeded. Perhaps they think its DTC that should be doing it. There are broken branches lying around for quite a while now..litter aplenty..and the official signpost has been uprooted, concrete foundation and all, and chucked in the river. It didnt quite reach the river and is now on view lying on the near bank.
Not much room for water...the river at Charlton Green today.

That branch has been there for quite a while, possibly brought down by the previous strong winds a few weeks ago.

From day one of the Dover Forum when I first joined and ever since I have told you all the way this would all go, the Dour is slowly turning into a stream from a river. I could go on for ever trying to find old threads, but what's the point.
On other threads money is now being poured in to help so called flood defences.
It's all crap, A silted and overgrown river is a disaster waiting to happen for some home owners.
Get some one in with a little bit of intelligence please.

Talking about the river, on coming back from work the last few days I've definitely noticed it's gone considerably lower.
The second pic in post 49 shows this.
Is something amis?

Jan (H) the destruction of the branches looks sadly more like vandalism than strong winds. There are two branches downed, both at reachable arms length ..ie both from low down on the tree. It looks like they were just torn off and left. The signpost is also clearly vandalism. It would have taken several people to get it out of the ground with its heavy base. A large hole remains. It was then dragged twenty/thirty yards and chucked over the railings into the river, as I said in the earlier post it didnt quite make the water and is lying on the bank.
Sympathy as ever Ian. Picture two tells the story there in post 49.
It looks clean though.

I admit I seldom walk along the path by Morrisons and only see from the road side pavement across the river, it was just that those branches appeared after gale force winds so I assumed that was the cause.

I did actually walk along that path on two consecutive days. The second day was when I took the pictures in post 23. I can confirm that overnight the weather was fine, it was later that the wind got up. There is no doubt in my mind that it was vandalism.

Having spent a lot of time and money on the area, the Town Council is very keen to reopen this space ASAP. Ways of controlling the damage are being looked into but just when there is a possibility of a solution to one problem a new one (such as ripping out concrete signs) shows its head.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.
