Scotchie do they..I didnt realise. Im not too sure tho. I think I remember the Seafrance promo saying they had shaved 15 minutes off the crossing to Calais with the new ferry Rodin when it arrived in service. I think I remember that anyway.
Well there you are Marek. This is something they keep quiet or have kept quiet for allsorts of reasons, probably because they dont want the opposition to know what they are doing. Save vast amounts of money and save the planet at the same time...nothing could be easier or so it seems.

I am sure that they can do faster crossings if they wanted to (Ed will probably correct me) but with having to wait certain lengths of time before opening and closing the shops, they would lose a lot of money !
Been nice knowing you :)

scotchie is spot on, late at night with hardly any passengers, except those fast asleep, the journey time can be very much shorter, allegedly.
good to see that speed ferries will be taking foot passengers from 11th of july for the sum of £.7.50.
a day out in a delightful town with a nice meal washed down with wine, followed by a cognac and no worries about driving.

got to be great fun john, walking distance from ferry to town, fully pedestrianised, great food and drink.
i am pleased for the town of bolougne, at present they get no benefit from the traffic that leaves the ferry and goes straight to the motorway.

Yes its good news that Speedferries are to accept foot passengers from 11 July. Thanks for that info Howard. I wonder why they didnt bother with foot passengers before, its obviously a small slice of the market but would have thought they would have accessed every option. If they publicise the day trip possibilities around the town and further afield Im sure it will generate a fair few travellers.
Yes Boulogne is a pleasant town..make sure you visit the 'old town' at the top of the hill.

Great News! I will skip across there for a gastronomic feast and sample some fine wines Wahey!
What kept them, why did it take so long?

"I wonder why they didnt bother with foot passengers before"
Probably a similar reason why other ferries "don't like them" - they would need to lay on transport, open extra walkways, etc - so not really cost effective....
£15 is quite a lot for a day out, but would be nice to do Bologne again as I don't think I have been since the ol' Hovercraft days
Been nice knowing you :)

When I spoke to Speedferries a couple of years ago or so, they said it as purely down to cost, so now they must feel that that cost is worth going to.

Roger - this is because they are now at the Western Docks and it is possible to walk to the Sickcat - not something I would like to try do in the Eastern
Been nice knowing you :)
Boulogne's a far superior town to Calais.
It's good to have the old place back - allez Boulogne!

i have been hammering at them ever since they moved to the western docks.
you can see the passenger ramp hovering while the cars are going on .
most of the cars have only 1 or 2 occupants.
the ferry is full with cars, but still plenty of seats empty in the passenger section.
i am very suprised that they have not latched onto it earlier.
maybe they are testing the water for when their second catamaram comes into operation.?

Only noticed today in the paper that speedferries where going to start taking foot passagers, never got to go on the hovercraft when it was around and boulogne is much quainter than calais.
must try it when it starts.

wonderful day out jan, cobbled streets, nice cafes and bars, genuine old world feel to the place.
walking distance from the seacat, what can be better?
