it is always easy to find a better way of saving money.
ask 100 people, you may well get 100 different ideas how public money should be spent.

Regarding Deal Pier, when is someone going to put the clock right at the landside end of it? It's a source of great annoyance and incredulity to locals that it's been over an hour behind for months and months and months. Surely someone with the, ahem, authority to commission a bloke with a ladder ('elf and safety minefield I know, but worth the life-threatening risk) could get someone to put the blinking time right?
Also, just in front of the clock, the fisherman's statue has for I reckon a year been ringed by three unsightly traffic cones, leaving it looking, frankly, rubbish.
If there are small holes or whatever that these doughty cones are covering then, er, can't someone with the authority etc (see above) get someone to fix them? I'm sure these holes aren't so lethal that some wandering tourist drone or iPod-addled chav or chavette would fall down them and then sue the a*se off whichever 'negligent' buffer or buffette was responsible for their non-upkeep.
Once again: it's all about perception...get the small aesthetic things right (paint over chipboard shopfronts etc - where's 'Spirit of Deal', by the way???) in our towns to create the right vibe for the bigger projects.

Small things do make a difference Andrew, e.g litter.
Sue, it sounds if it were up to you, the watersports centre could have just done with another shed-like structure and Deal pier could have had something for £10,000. I thought you were against 'cheap, cheap' and wanted quality and culture!?

I do like quality but dont we all.The Deal Pier Cafe was way over budget and other major projects have had tp be put on hold.Try explaining that to the children of Clarendon .A politicians lot is not easy
The Sesports Centre was purpose built to house all watersport users under one roof . Both my sons and their father before them are keen dingy sailors .My grandaughter now enjoys rowing .WE have waited years for this centre so glad to see its completition .
When budgets are "over", there is usually a Plan B.....and most of the time over-spends are factored in, as are slippages around time. It makes me wonder about the realistic perceptions of public planners if things are consistently slipping and over budget...? A good project manager is worth their weight in gold. I do guest spots...!!!!!

Our towns need you, Bern. You seem capable of doing that rare thing - talking sense.
