For a small town for which a fifth of the UK's trade passes through we/our representatives really should be putting forward a case for priority investment from central funds to prop up a failing local economy. We are inconvenienced by the constant traffic flow in and out of the port and should be compensated some way or the other. Duelling the A2 (although I'm not convinced of the benefits of this) or perhaps providing tax breaks to entice national company's to relocate to Dover would be good.
There does seem to be some sort of disconnect between the Harbour Board and the local community which is a shame. I think Neil's post above provides some welcome transparency and perhaps that is the key to rebuilding the trust moving forwards?
Neil states that a proportion of DHB's profit goes to local community organisations. I don't know what that means in hard cash per year but hopefully it's a significant proportion of the declared profit. I wonder if the Board would consider extending part (or more) funding to support local projects, projects that can be seen and enjoyed by the whole community and not just providing funding for improvements/projects on their owned buildings? Financially supporting the Market Square development springs to mind.

A bit out of date, but gives you the general idea.
Perhaps the Community Director (1 of 2) Neil Wiggins can point the way to a list of the benefactors and what the Community Fund has achieved. Thank you.

Surely the only benefactor would be Dover Harbour Board?

PCF is administered by Kent Community Foundation, who manage the application process.

The PCF board evaluate funding bids and choose those who will receive grants in each funding round.
The latest funding round closes for applications in 3 days

Ready for the cut-thru from Wellington Docks to the Sea.
Ready for a nice mooring for your Yacht(s).!!!!!
Say cheerio to the lovely Sunny Beach, where many families enjoyed their time together in a sheltered situation.
Say Good-bye to more and more history gone forever.

Strange how criticism of legalised destruction is called negative.

#71 The bottom computerised picture shows the front of the Watersports Centre has been concreted
over. Where will they put their boats etc to go out to sea?

Where the Hoverpad and the Prince of Wales Pier have morphed into one.
Behind, where the boats are the Granville Docks, will become one and the same.
A concrete sheet.
Historical Docks. Shame on them. The yachters like the Granville Marina, it is sheltered, private and a good mooring.
Dover will not benefit from this, anymore than it has benefited from the expansions of the Eastern Docks.

Strangely most of the 'yachters' I've spoken to are looking forward to having 24/7 access instead of the restricted access to the Granville (HW -3.5 hrs / + 4.5 hrs approx) and being away from the constant noise of the A20.
