16:2836000Let`s hope so Howard. And keep this post updated. Put the wardens on a bonus to encourage them.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

16:4836003Hi Colin/Howard
In my post the refeence to "Enforcement Officers" is that instead of Dog Wardens they are Enforcement Officers covering all aspects of litter/dog fouling etc.I feel Dog Wardens do not issue enforcement notices very often...would be interesting if DDC could let us know how many in last year issued. A person with a wider remit for enforcement may be the way forward.
Certainly if the Dog Warden(s) are not enforcing but being paid by us the ratepayers I see no point in a bonus if the job is not being done unless we are encoraging a bonus culture akin to the banking world.

17:1836007I do like the name and shame bit as well Pat. I don`t park where I can`t these days, because the traffic wardens are constantly about, and highly prolific. Are they partly self financing?

17:2836008One of the worst places for chewing gum is the underpass under Townwall Street it looks like a plague of lichen

17:4936010Hi Colin
I agree the Traffic Wardens are highly prolific..not sure if they are on a bonus system!!!
I think DDC were to or have retitled them "Enforcement Officers" so in effect they could have the powers for litter/dog fouling etc if DDC so desired but I dont think they do any of this at present
HI Ross
Yes the underpass is a disgrace,, this is the only route that tourists take from the seafront and sets the scene for their visit to Dover.
It seems DDC has a "Chewing Gum Removal Machine" but it is the wrong type as only cleans paving and not asphalt.
To open the subject a little wider.... As a boy I remember when there was a penny deposit on a bottle. This encouraged the bottle to be returned to the shop, if it was discarded there was always someone who would pick it up to get the penny. How about a 5p on cans as we seem to have the town scattered with beer/drink cans . A tax on chewing gum if the tax was used for cleaning the streets rather than, I suspect, Central Government would retain it in the general coffers.

17:5836012I do aplogise Pat. It threw me when you stated when you were a boy, as I thought you were a woman.

. I know more female Pat`s than males, but do know a couple of males. Never gave it a thought. Anyway, back to the subject. Yes, the glass bottle deposit was a good incentive to return it, but these days, the deposit would have to be a bit more.

09:2036040Finding out how many fines the Dog-Warden has issued (if indeed he can issue fines), can be found out by an email/phone call.
I've diarised it to call DDC on Monday.
Pat, would you like to email me your worst half a dozen buildings - in order of the worst first ?
I've made a list and have started taking photos of the offending buildings/parts of buildings.
When I have people's input and married it to mine, I can present the worst half dozen to DDC.
I'd appreciate everyone's input on this: grumble by all means, but help too.
Roger

The row of shops owned by Municipal Charities on London Road
The empty shops in the row opposite the Charlton Cente
The Charlton Centre

13:2036055The top two belong to Jimmy Godden.Third one down Land Lord lives abroad DDC are working on that one and it could well be a venue for the VIC .
Three Cooks Land Lord in London has very little interest in the building although DDC managed to get the windows boarded up .Nigel who never posts on here advised us when a certain site meeting was held that there was someone interested in aquiring the lease .Nigel was full of that information then .People believed him
Trying to help here Roger as you well know I tried very hard to get something done .We did get the Salvation Army Building ,Metropole the United Reformed Church ,Prince of Wales old Training school plus the old Taxi rank of of Worthington Street .It did take a lot of talking Our DDC officer is only part time ..

13:3236056I go along with Paul and Ross on the above, but especially, the one`s in the former Market Square area, as this is an open area for outdoor cafe`s etc, which are always popular in other towns and cities these days, and draw the visitor`s. BUT, above all, GET RID of that OBTRUSIVE TV SCREEN booming out in the centre of it all. I`m not alone in this, it`s okay at home for those who wish to watch it, (I don`t), but if we have visitors at home, it goes off if it`s on. It is anti-social, and as it is there, a distraction to everything else around it. The TV screen, will not rule my house or life, and I`ve seen no crowds last year watching it, apart from special events, which on their own, don`t justify it being there anyway. Get rid of it, it lowers the tone of the whole area!!!

13:4036057I love the people on this site - so much knowledge and so many great people with Dover at their heart. If only more people were like the guys and gals on here!! Roger -you are a real star - you never seem to lose that great energy and drive for improvement despite the apathy we all encounter at the "top". Sue - your ability to be brave and risk you neck are admirable. And everyone else here - I know, for instance, that so many people joined the campaign via email for the Weatherspoons facade in Castle street - 2010 will be a good year for Dover if we continue to work together. We share so many common values and a real passion for Dover and for improvement. Here's to 2010 and this forum!!

08:3936098Thanks guys (and that includes Sue and Bern).
If you can send photos Paul (Scotchie) that'll be great; I am taking photos too of course, but maybe other's might be taken with a better camera, or different angle, close up to the damage.
I wondered that myself Sue on Thursday night - we were in Chapter 8, so not far away.
I didn't go and look as we were enjoying ourselves and it was also pretty cold (wimp !); I didn't see any evidence of it showing anything at all - having the countdown to midnight would have got lots of people there celebrating, showing the fireworks from around the world (yes I know Sydney's great show is on many hours before we even get there) including London, would have been great.
Isn't it supposed to be turned off at 11.00pm ?
Roger

The first 3 I think come under Mr Godden - the arcade, crypy and the corner of Bench/Townwall - that end looks soooo untidy
Next is the labour exchange and next door
Finally the 3 cooks
Been nice knowing you :)
