Difficult to see how the Falstaff/Fleur de Lys can be profitable. Two big pubs the Prince Albert and the Park Inn have had expensive makeovers and micro pubs seem to be springing up all the time.

I have always thought that the kerb appeal of that pub is awful, not at all enticing to potential customers.

Looks like a brothel in old Constantinople.

Not a bad description of the goings on in The Foc'sle Club in the upstairs room during the late 60s!

I went and recorded a "folk type" musical event there c1970. I refer by the way to the Foc'sle Club not Constantinople !It was organised by Peter Godson a reporter on the Dover Express. A very popular song of the evening was entitled "Who Farted".

It was on Saturday night. Two other shop fronts were damaged as well as several cars up the hill towards Western Heights, apparently.

I was enjoying a nice bottle in the Mash Tun on Friday night with the effervescent ColetteB when a local celebrity wandered in nonchalantly in quest of a fine quality pint or maybe even two.. Yes it was none other than Chris Precious himself the all new Mayor of Dover with immaculate new haircut. Ooh I say! Very dashing and no mistake. He is enjoying the new role for sure. Much excitement all round.
Fortunately I had my ancient oul Nikon with me so rattled off a few...here's one..
Left to right. Peter Garstin, Kathryn Garstin both of the Mash Tun, then ColetteB fresh from the Connaught Park endeavours and then Chris Precious himself.
We even used the brand spanking new carpark over there.
Exciting times.

Thanks Paul.
Chris is doing a great job as Mayor and yes, he is looking pretty good too.

Aweee! yes indeed, good to see Chris with his all new mayoral haircut!!
Lovin the Mash Tun with its fine array of best ales & for me the finest of quality wines. Peter & Kathryn are doing us proud here in Dover. That ancient oul Nikon is still on form MrB much like your goodself
Roger, we must get together at the Mash Tun again real soon

Yes Colette & Paul, the Mash Tun is definitely where Dover's nobs hang out.

Don't know if this is another false dawn but the "Falstaff" had shrink wrapped trays of soft drinks in there today.

Looks like the end of the road for the "Lord Nelson", must have been closed for over 3 years now and it will still be next to a building site for 2 more probably
Doors were open to see the decay inside.

I very much doubt the "Falstaff" will be open soon Reg, the decorators just do bits and pieces every now and again.
