I was in there only a few days ago?
They'd had a nice new heater installed only that day?
And the week before that, they'd spent lots getting the glasswasher or ice machine fixed or something?
I am incredulous. I believe you but it makes no sense. I have so many questions.
Always seemed busy during the day, maybe the staff have gone down with that bug that has been doing the rounds since Christmas?

As a family some of us have had at various times a debilitating stomach bug so could be illness or even a holiday.

Indeed the closed sign has now been removed and replaced by a notice for a charity fundraiser tomorrow.

A new wine bar based at La Salle Verte is due to open in late February. Sounds good to me.

The landlord of the Boars Head is leaving to go back to the west country. Don't think there's a replacement yet.

Just read that the Eagle has closed and will be shut for "the forseeable future".

On the plus side I hear that the Eight Bells now has strippers!
(though the manager tells me it's labelled 'vodka').

Making a pub that size and in that location financially viable is asking a lot. A few things have been tried - a carvery for example without lasting success.

Must be very hard for the small pubs to survive especially now most beers have gone up in price.

The chap in charge will be a Mr Scott Embleton whose name seems very familiar.

Just heard that the "Roman Quay" is now closed until further notice, hopefully not permanent as that part of town will look desolate with the Co-op standing empty.

Roman Quay which recently re-opened has now closed again until further notice, apparently due to some sort of takeover in the business world.
