These are the latest pictures as of late yesterday looking from the seafront. The destructers are, as you can see, knocking seven bells out of the County Hotel with mangled internals spewing down, and at the same time monumentally tackling the monolithic Burlington. We never thought it could happen but like a miracle or a fairy tale...its coming true. They have made further progress this morning since the pictures were taken and I now have an admirable view of the Lord Nelson pub...my life's complete so it is!

Here we have a pic of the last few remaining inner giblets of the County Hotel...it is still standing but its only a matter of short time now I would guess. The long arm shown bashes away at it constantly. Bash grind bash grind and on it goes..
And yes indeed Peter once the oul Burlington monstrosity is out of the way we will be able to photograph the Mash Tun. Looking forward to doing that. Enjoyed the usual bottle of wine in there with the ever effervescent ColetteB last Friday evening...
and one extra pic for luck..
the sun is definitely going down on Burlington House.

That was an interesting read.
It seems towns need a "trendy" angle to improve, if that is the case no wonder Dover is stuck in a rut as I fail to see how DTIZ will ever be trendy.
The proposed marina by DHB might catch on but I doubt that will be of much benefit to the rest of the town if at all.

Actually Jan both boat owners and visiting yacht crews spend quite a lot of money in the town.

But if I have understood it correctly the proposed plan is to eventually have new shops in the marina area, surely most of the crews etc will stay in that area and not bother with the more inland parts of the town for their shopping.

A couple of rumours doing the rounds:-
a) Argos plan to move into the new development.
b) W.H. Smith plan to leave the town altogether when the DTIZ opens for business.

a/ might be a good move, will not have to wear waders to get into the shop when it rains.
b/a better move altogether for what I have seen inside the shop.

Smith's always looks a bit neglected with the floor sometimes in need of a good sweep, the staff always seem busy either serving or restocking shelves and don't really have the spare capacity to do it.

The last time I went into Smiths it was filthy dirty and extremely tatty, as a result I have not been in there for quite a while.

Another brick less in the wall...
the jackhammer thingy began rat tat tatting today at the brickwork at the very tip of Burlington House. Much of the square top area appears to be now nearly gone...so a big start has been made. You can see the area I refer to in the wider view picture at the top of this page...this section was once the home and support of many an aerial.

As you can see in the latest picture above, the entire top section of Burlington Bertie is now gone.
You can see the section we refer to here in the following picture, a picture we used previously.
The section right at the very top as you can see...all gone. Vanished under the continual sound of the persistant jackhammer.
These guys are clearly on the stairway to heaven....you can see them in the top picture extreme right...making their way to the stars.

Looking through bleary sleep filled eyes this morning, this was the sight that greeted yours truly...blimey that was quick thought I. We know the guys doing the job are fast, they are quite literally powering along, but to have got rid of the monstrous Burlington beast that quick was something of a miracle. Alas...a couple of strong cups of coffee later and not only did the bleary sleep filled eyes disappear ...so did some of the foggggg. And here we are...the beast was still there, the monster returneth...

I love the way you are keeping us up to date about the eyesore's demise,
That fog was certainly thick this morning, the b stuff has held my grandson's flight from Spain by several hours.
