Meanwhile in the real world:-
'If approved, KCC Tories say the changes would lead to 48 bus contracts being withdrawn from summer 2022'.

Now now captain you know half of those KCC members don’t live in the real world .Its staggering to think Some children will not have a bus service .I lived in a rural village and buses were essential .The workers bus everyday and a bus service to the main town on a Friday as it was Market day .
some of the elderly residents will have no social life at all .Whats the use of bus passes if you cannot use them .Dont mention Fast Track buses.Worst idea ever .Meanwhile the local bus services in our district will suffer.

You see Sue i have been critical of both parties in the past and politics in general .
Yet here you are after moaning at my posts doing exactly the same .
Although your correct , it's a bit of double standards ?

At least with a 'fully-automated' system the driver won't get roasted.

Whilst the IBF might have gone away, the FastTrack is wrecking the area, let's hope it will be returned to just a road and landscaped properly at the sides when finished......

I just hope the Fast Track is worth the cost and gets well used and does not turn into yet another stupid white elephant idea that we have had foisted on to us .......... I will not hold my breathe as I do not believe in miracles.

Of course it wont be worth the cost (£15m), I mean the DDC portfolio holder and officers dont even know if it makes it a quicker journey from Whitfield to the station or whether any of the residents of Whitfield will even use it. I suspect very few if any will as they will prefer to use their Chelsea Tractors etc.

My suspicion is that some Whitfield residents may use it to go as far as Tesco/leisure centre but no further. I think the route between business park and town will be little utilised - nothing to go into town for (shops????) and fewer and fewer people will be travelling by train.
Unless something changes soon the rail unions will ensure that train travel becomes even more expensive or the services will be much reduced.
All the money for this is linked to housing developments- let’s tie DDC in knots!!

I have a friend who is a succesful businessman and recently made a fair amount of money when he sold his software company to an American firm. He bought one the new builds in Whitfield. I can no more imagine him using the Fast Track service than I can see him wanting to exhibit himself on Love Island. But you never know, I might be proved wrong!

I wish they would use the money to sort out our existing local bus services which are still having services cancelled regularly. Just finding alternative transport to get children to school is proving a nightmare for many Dover parents.

Having attended numerous meetings regarding Fastrack I can confirm that the above has been raised more than once. The answer is always the same…….the funding is only available for this project and if it were not to proceed the money would no longer be made available. As I’ve said previously it is linked to the housing developments at Whitfield and Connaught Barracks.
Sadly no one listens. The public consultation was held during COVID restrictions and there were few responses- certainly in my opinion not enough to give it the green light. The consultation also only addressed questions related to the frequency of service and number/locations of bus stops. It DIDN’T ask….do residents want or need this service!

They are digging a huge stepped hole in the ground where the pedestrian route will be crossing , I presume for a pollution drainage ditch (I'm not a qualified engineer but it looks like the same thing by Guston bridge) and I hope is going to be protecting the area around there?
On the plus side, I suppose if they are electrically operated buses, there won't be much pollution

Shame they cannot extend the route to Aycliffe. No need to built any more infrastructure..
We have the A20 or they could go over military hill and link the Western Heights community.
Or it is because we are not part of Whitfield :)

Don't forget Gary, this is to serve Whitfield, not Dover! Your idea is sound though as I bet the buses would be busier from your neck of the woods into the town than they will be from the fabled (non-existent yet) houses in Whitfield?

Meanwhile here's 38 bus routes about to be closed!
(Including 61/61A Stagecoach from Aycliffe to Whitfield; withdrawal of three Monday to Saturday evening journeys).

And how would you know?
I went to C'bury by 'bus yesterday and tried to call in the 'travel center' at the 'bus station to get a timetable for my return.
It's now permanently closed and one of the drivers told me that 'they're no longer printing timetables as they change them so often' but it's all available 'on line'.
Fortunately I have a smart 'phone and Stagecoach App.
Unfortunately data coverage in Canterbury is abysmal.
Ended up using M&S free wi-fi.

Tommy Cooper must have designed Canterbury's technology.

Sue
Looks like we are on the same side again .
£15m for a project that probably won't be used and will do little to help the buses in town and around the area .
