Meanwhile in the real world.
Local Stagecoach bus services continue to be cancelled and have 'disruption to the advertised bus times' if you can get hold of the information.

Wow! There are indicator boards which show bus arrivals in real time!
What sorcery is this?

Went to 'exhibition'.
Not sure wether more disappointed or angry.
While the rest of the world is developing autonomous transport systems (Already running USA, China, Scandinavia and now even Spain
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/25/driverless-electric-bus-hits-the-road-in-spanish-city-of-malaga ) we are apparently meant to get excited that they've managed to put some seats on the same technology that used to drive milk floats and that the rest of the world with the exception of Africa, has been using for decades

And of course the land agents are our old fiends T Dan Citycourt Developments!
Call me old fashioned but I thought the idea was to hit developers with 106 agreements to pay for necessary infrastructure to mitigate such as increased traffic NOT to build infrastructure to encourage development?

Last time York had a Local Plan was 1956. Basically York has decided it's quite big enough and doesn't want to grow.

Fast Track - Project Newsletter March 2022
'The £22.9m public transport investment, which is backed by government support from the Housing Infrastructure Fund and the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme, will see a fleet of electric buses operating on Dover Fastrack link up to 5,000 new homes in Whitfield with Dover town centre and Dover Priory railway station and its High-Speed train links with London'.
FIVE THOUSAND new homes!
(Census 2011 - The total population of the Whitfield ward is 5,142, of which 2,508 (48.8%) are male and 2,634 (51.2%) are female).

I’m still intrigued as to who is going to buy all of these new houses. I visited the exhibition yesterday and expressed that view. Dover has very few employment opportunities and I can’t see all of these new residents being commuters or even people escaping the city and working from home. I’d want a much better shopping and entertainment environment/experience to entice me to invest in this area if I were looking to move. Admittedly the local countryside is beautiful but that is fast being destroyed in the face of so called ‘progress’.

I agree Arthur. This desire to cover every field with new housing is appalling. Why would you want to move here .?Where are the shops the entertainment etc.Kent the Garden of England. When I moved here fifty one years ago there was the military .The Hoverport.Dover Engineering works. The Overseas Mail sorting Office. The Royal Victoria Hospital .DDC employed more staff.Im sure the list is much longer. Its time the Public realised we are being brain washed. In my own way I still speak out .

I will only give up my car when I can no longer drive safely. Those who live in rural areas depend on their cars, we have CHOSEN to live in the countryside and accept the limitations.

These maps make me laugh, no schools, shops or doctors surgery.
If half the houses contain families, you'll need a primary school at least and maybe a secondary, I suppose people can jump on the FastTrack bus to get to the shops (or drive their 4x4s) and I struggle to get an appointment at High St surgery who have an offshoot in Whitfield, so I doubt they can increase capacity.
Still, if it's taken over 10 years to build the rubbish they have so far, it won't be for another 10 years to get everything on this map built and I'll be happily retired in Poland by then and start my own "Beautiful Poland" thread

Yes the school is but it's pretty much to capacity now and the majority of the houses haven't been built or occupied yet!

Already filled by the current residents then, certainly highlights the shortage already in school places. Going to be dire by the time they've built the circa 5000 homes!

There are two more school sites on that map that haven't been built yet.
But maybe more general discussion about the Whitfield development should be
continued here.
