It's a shame they don't look at the bus service overall and provide a public service

Devastating news.
The sign near B&Q that said opening Autumn 2023 now says opening 2024.

Meanwhile, "the Conservative (in case you thought they'd been defeated already) Government has invested a further £2.3 million of Government funding to protect essential bus services and allow Kent County Council to make travel improvements. The investment comes from the third round of the Bus Services Improvement Plan 2024-25.
"The Conservative (yup, still them) Government has invested nearly £40 million in Kent bus services since 2022, safeguarding and enhancing bus travel while helping people save money on public transport."
Natalie "calls on it to be spent towards investing in bus services in Dover, Deal, and the Villages", including Aycliffe and River.

All this just so buses can travel the "wrong way" along Pencester Road instead of around Ladywell?
I wonder how long before the local residents are up in arms?
I suppose we should be grateful that they didn't just install it overnight like the A256 bus/cycle lane a few years ago

There is not enough room for buses to travel one way. So they spend all this money on one bus route whilst cutting services to other places in Dover… Aycliffe where I live was one of those bus services cut…
I do not see the point of objecting because it will go thorough no matter what we say

(If I have it right) the rationale is to reduce the effect on buses of traffic-jamming on Maison Dieu. But, effectively, the scheme will merely allow a bus to jump the queue at Pencester, saving it around 100 yards (the rough distance between Ladywell and Pencester) of queueing. It'll still be stuck until traffic clears to Castle Hill (another 100 yards and a bit).
Time saved? [Ladywell-Castle Hill queueing time] - [Pencester-Castle Hill queueing time] = [your guess here].
There'll also be a knock-on for traffic up Maison Dieu, Barton Road and beyond, including buses coming from Whitfield, Melbourne and Canterbury.
You will see in the 'Equality Impact Assessment' (oodles of chuckles in there) that there is, for some people, a 'risk of tripping' during the works. It seems to me that the authors of the scheme have tripped already.
Either that or, as with many other large public works projects, there are irresistible opportunities for juicy contracts, greased palms, ego-building and power displays.
(Also, I was unaware there was so much 'fear of crime' in Dover.)

Oh come now, isn't the scope wider than that - after all, how many things can you spot on the map that I assume will be coming back?

Yes B. Realised I left out the other bit.
Still, factor in [roundabout-Ladywell/Maison Dieu queueing time]
- [roundabout-Worthington-Pencester queueing time]
= [your second guess here], and add it to the first calculation.
Seems to me also to confirm that the jams are a feature not a bug.

Whoops. Apologies.
(Lesson: never simultaneously read bus route documents and Lord of the Rings, as your journey may not go quite as planned.)
