I had to laugh when I saw the comments made by Gordon Brown today, calling a Labour voter a bigot just because she expressed concerns about immigration.
In an era when the public's view of politicians is already seriously damaged following the expenses scandal, now this. It just shows the contempt that politicians show to voters. It shows just how alienated from real people top politicians really are.
Anyway this should cheer us all up...

Absolutely spot on, Rick. Calling one's own supporters names just shows how the Prime Minister judges all of us. He really has to go.
True friends stab you in the front.

just looked at the transcript, wonderful stuff.
the lady to the pm "these eastern europeans, where are they all coming from"?
i will have to think about that one.
pm to the lady "a million have come in and a million have gone the other way".
it seems that fruit fields in romania and bulgaria are bulging with us brits.
With all due respect to Gordon (which I have not got a lot) should I have been quoted in the Staff Room this afternoon after teaching Year8, I too would probably have to apologise (if not resign!).

Well in a kind of way this gaffe is fascinating, or more importantly how it will affect the polls will be fascinating. Gordon Brown has totally wiped David Cameron and Nick Clegg off the news channels today entirely. You would be forgiven for assuming those two had gone on holiday and left the market entirely to dear ol Gordon ..who really has a touch of the hapless about him at times. But nevertheless there he is hogging the airwaves all day long.
As Bob says there, we all do this kind of thing..f and b in a quiet moment of rant. Obviously this could go two ways..either it will flatten oul Gordon for once and for all, or it will actually boost his poll rating due to the overwhelming coverage he is getting. Clangers like this are not as damaging as they would have been 20 or 30 years ago, we are all much more aware of the stresses and strains nowadays, what with it being a 24 hours a day media world now with access to almost everything.
It will be fascinating to watch the pollsters in the next few days.
So here's Gordon's mail to Labour Party members:-
As you may know, I have apologised to Mrs Duffy for remarks I made in the back of the car after meeting her on the campaign trail in Rochdale today. I would also like to apologise to you.
I know how hard you all work to fight for me and the Labour Party, and to ensure we get our case over to the public. So when the mistake I made today has so dominated the news, doubtless with some impact on your own campaigning activities, I want you to know I doubly appreciate the efforts you make.
Many of you know me personally. You know I have strengths as well as weaknesses. We all do. You also know that sometimes we say and do things we regret. I profoundly regret what I said this morning.
I am under no illusions as to how much scorn some in the media will want to heap upon me in the days ahead.
But you, like I, know what is at stake in the days ahead and so we must redouble our campaigning efforts to stop Britain returning to a Tory Party that would do so much damage to our economy, our society and our schools and NHS, not least in places like Rochdale.
The worst thing about today is the hurt I caused to Mrs Duffy, the kind of person I came into politics to serve. It is those people I will have in my mind as I look ahead to the rest of the campaign.
You will have seen me in one context on the TV today. I hope tomorrow you see once more someone not just proud to be your leader, but also someone who understands the economic challenges we face, how to meet them, and how that improves the lives of ordinary families all around Britain.
Regards,
Gordon'
Well. That's all right then. Usual platitudes.
Prat!

i think it will be forgotten by tomorrow, there will be more gaffes from people along the way.
the party organisers think they can orchestrate things to suit themselves, but human failings will always show in the pressure cooker atmosphere of a general election.
Howard, where do you think Gordon puts the accent on patronise.
On the 'a' or on the 'i'?
The bottom line is that there is damn all difference in what is meant and just sums up the attitude between the politicos and the voters.

lost me completely bob, kindly lower yourself to explain to me what you mean.
Howard,
Two definitions of the word depending upon where the stress in pronunciation is put:-
1.
to give (a store, restaurant, hotel, etc.) one's regular patronage; trade with.
2.
to behave in an offensively condescending manner toward: a professor who patronizes his students.
It doesn't matter what apologies he makes, what humble pie he eats, or what tactics he employs now. He is exposed. We've had a glimpse of the real man behind the politician, a rare private moment in which we got to experience his genuine feelings. If you ask me, the man is a power-hungry lunatic who regards the public with contempt, meeting them in the campaign trail because he has to rather than because he wants to, and existing in denial of any of the realities that real people worry about. Gordon Brown is a complete and total imbecile, unelected too, and simply does not deserve the job he has. I'll vote for ANYONE to get rid of that stupid one-eyed moron (with apologies to anyone who may have one eye - but I'll bet even blind individuals are not as short-sighted as our idiot PM).
David Blunkett? Two of a kind maybe?
As much as the lefties would like this to subside it won't. The media will make it run and run and LAbour supportrs will be reminded that THEIR top man thinks they are bigots if they don't hold his views. Why would anyone vote for a party led by such a person. Maybe Gordie is looking for a second career as head of the BNP?
Just watch! This is seriously funny!!!

rick
do you consider "stupid one eyed moron" and "complete and total imbecile" as views?
if so i wouald vehemently disagree.
It isn't so much what he said - we all know that politicians see us as scumsucking voters - but his utter stupidity and lack of discretion at being heard. I want a man who remembers he is on mike to run the country, not one who forgets his own discretion.

But surely it's the total lack of respect for ordinary people and their views that is so disgraceful and to apologise afterwards - for what he truly believes, shows the level of contempt he has for normal everyday people.
It's not so much the error of leaving his microphone on Brian, it's the obvious contempt he has for anyone who has a different view to his bigoted ideas.
If you are excusing what he said just because of leaving his mike on, you discount the fact that he doesn't like or value ordinary people and these are the ones he wants to vote for him.
You're an ordinary bloke Brian, do you like hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions (no one actually knows) of immigrants - illegal or otherwise, coming into Britain ? if not, Gordon Brown "privately" thinks your a bigot too.
