14:5572594 Kath, this is all I can offer to compliment your picture. Don`t know how long my dad had them, but I`ve hung on to them with everything else. The picture above made them look big, but they`re two small, individually wrapped blades.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

15:1872599This old reel was among father's fishing gear, I don't think he ever used it, someone must have given him some old reels.

16:2072605A Prussian cavalry sword found by English builders in Germany under floor boards.
The balde was so bad the finder decided to cut the blade off.
Given to me by good old Dad it now sits on top of a unit just looking good.

17:4572614Some lovely items above! A few of my weirdies. None are worth very much, but all unusual!
Royal Garrison Artillery uniform jacket (private) c.1904. Troops stationed at Dover Castle would have worn these.
The beak of a female giant squid, i.e. Architeuthis Dux preserved in isopropyl alcohol.
Luftshutz (Air raid warden) helmet from 1942 with contemporary gas mask.
Large Jurassic ammonite - probably Lytoceras - preserved in limestone.

19:0372629Lovely sized ammonite there Phil, did you find it locally or bought elsewhere? I`ve only ever found a small one over the Warren.

19:2472637Great collection there Phil.
Did I ever mention my Victorian taxidermy?! I have owls, sandpipers, a jay and these - kingfisher in a bell jar, red cardinal and a puffin.
Before I have the animal rights people knocking on my door I only collect VICTORIAN taxidermy, not recent.
Err I also have a 1930s croc handbag with a real croc (I never take it out though.)

19:2572639Bit of a story there on that one Colin. I was given it at about at a friends house after a night on the razzle. Trouble was I had been drinking home-made cider after the pub and was three sheets to the wind. I was given this enormous ammonite and staggered home with it in a bag across Tower Hamlets. I got stopped by the Old Bill who asked me what I had in the bag and I tried to drunkenly explain it was Jurassic period ammonite cephalopod.
They drove on. True story.

20:0072645Kath, I have one of the tins in #1 somewhere, I think it must have been my grandfathers.
I seem to acquire various objects, one is this cast iron railway sign.

21:4272656I bet someone's got an old Oxo tin - red with hinges? I haven't got one but we kids always took our lunch out on picnics etc in one. Lunch was usually a marmite or jam sandwich, a jelly in a sunny spread tub and an apple. lol Good old days!
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

01:2172673Nice finds Kath. A little internet searching tells me that the Cinque Ports Rifle Volunteers were formed in 1859 in response to renewed perceived threats from France. Sometime shortly prior to WW1 they were reformed as a Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment. Here is a snippet for you:

You may lke to consider sending your pics to these chaps to see what they make of your finds:

Did you find them around Dover?

09:5072685Thanks Phil, I will e-mail them.
Howard - the old button does say CINQ PORTS and it does have the Cinque Ports coat of arms, I don't think it would be Essex.
Yes, they were found in the Dover area, but not by me.
