00:1235431Looks like a dry Christmas for us lot down here, if the weather people are to be believed. Shame the snow never came a week later.

11:4635448The wonders of technology, could this be Dover Forums first posting from a ferry in the middle of the Baltic Sea? Having been a milkman who was never enamoured by snow, I now find myself a truck driver less than keen on it. I have just spent a couple of days driving around Finland in the stuff and not once did I see a gritting lorry, although there was evidence on bends and hills.
Apparently it is compulsary to fit winter tyres to combat the conditions here, which would be an advantage in our winters but not too practical as they would wear very quickly on non snow days. A strange thing I did notice was they appear to give a higher priority to clearing pavements and working areas than they do to roads.

11:4936049Got home early from work this morning, as the snow was coming down hard the other side of Folkestone. So looks like the snow came a week early and a week late for a white Christmas down here. Best wishes to all again.

14:0636060i read that brighton city council gritted all there pavements yesterday, using volunteers from street cleaning and parks and gardens.
lesson to be learned?

14:1936065Yes, there is a lesson to be learned Howard. Volunteers are always the best source for any work, the main reason being, they do it because they like doing it, and get satisfaction out of it as opposed to someone being paid for doing it. And in many cases, do a better job. This is what has made the many preserved railways etc, such a huge multi-million pound success. Most would not exist without them.

18:5336074Yes, we had snow in Whitfield this morning but it melted quite quickly. Was pretty to watch when we were in the warm and recovering from the late night. Happy New Year.
