23:4336093One shop that never gets mentioned much on here from what I see, is Marks and Spencer. Why Folkestone lost their`s I don`t know, but our`s still seems to do well. I was in there yesterday, and they were queuing at the food tills. And the clothing section had a queue down to the door. With good quality products, let`s hope we never lose ours. Like Boots, it`s still nice to see the traditional names still going strong. Long may they continue. Any dislikes of them?

01:1836096I don't dislike M&S but have to say that I have never, ever bought anything from there. Claire often does (sandwiches and posh grub) but not me. I can't say why - maybe I see it as a bit of a "mum's" shop and I like "bloke's" shops. I dunno.

08:3836097I have always found M and S to be a better quality shop, you pay a bit more, but the quality is also better.
It has a good turnover every day
One small thing that I(and i'm sure others) get frustrated with is getting to the tills and theres only 2 open, so you end up there sometimes 20 minutes.

09:1636109Yes, I agree with that Keith, many times there's more people queueing to pay, than shoppers shopping.
We need the National chains, like M & S, Boots, Dorothy Perkins, JJB Sports etc.
I do think that M & S should have a separate food hall and clothing section, that way they could increase their range of clothes so that Dover people don't have to go to Canterbury (or order on-line).
If their current building was devoted to either food or clothers, another branch in Dover could sell what that one is not - it would be good for Marks, good for Dover and good for shoppers too.

09:5536120I think M&S have improved over the last few years. I like their food and where as a few years ago their clothes were a bit dated, when they introduced the Per Una and Autograph clothing ranges I started buying things there.
Is it just me or can anyone else find their way around Boots stores? Dispite the signs it always seems to take me an age to find the section I want!

09:5636121Extending M&S would be a great idea. It's a bit of a jack of all trades right now, but their real range is good if there was space to display it, including the food items. I am confident that it would do well in Dover. The queues are off-putting though - Colin, I was also in M&S with the Old Man when the queues were huge - misssed by a whisker again!!!

When I first met my wife to be she only shopped at M&S!!!!! on Oxford Street no less .It has taken years to wean off but she still goes in weekly for a quick 'hit'.
M&S have many large super outlets in the Philippines where I can buy my Marmalade and Brown Sauce there...They have a fantastic reputation and sometimes one feels proud to be British

10:2336125What pleases me about M&S is that they don't mess about with 99p. If it's £25 then that's what it is, not £24.99.
I seem to remember that during one of the interminable middle east wars soldiers were advised not to wear M&S (i.e. Jewish) underwear. Is that still the case?

11:4736132Use it or lose it .I have to say they did themselves no favours when their in store ordering service was stopped .I often saw something in Marks and Spencer Canterbury then ordered through the Dover branch .In the Winter (sorry chaps )you cannot buy 0r rarely 7denier tights (sorry stockings now off my agenda )Now have to order on line .
I agree the queues are long and often miss my bus waiting to be served .Still as long as we can keep it going its something to go into Dover for .

12:0936134Are they all full time staff in there I wonder? Twice, I`m afraid, I went in there and with the queue`s, I went into tesco`s on my way home. I have no patience for waiting, and I fear many shops must lose trade for lack of staff. WHS was another over Christmas.

12:1436136Queues turn me away as well - I am relatively patient, but for a shop to think it is ok to expect me to queue indicates to me a lack of respect for the customer - and I vote with my feet, wherever it is.

12:1536137I like M&S and shop there whenever I can. Their sandwiches are the cheapest in Dover, which I find extraordinary given their (merited) reputation for higher than average food prices. However, I don't go in there looking for 'value' products, I go in there looking for quality, and M&S is unbeatable in that department. However, we did come out of there the other day with our bags stuffed full of tinned cream of chicken soup, reduced to 27p per tin!!
True friends stab you in the front.

12:4536147They will close Keith. I`ve only been there for the first time last year, and 3 out of maybe 5 visits, I put the stuff back due to staff shortage at the tills.

13:0636156Thanks Keith, you`ve jogged my memory. This is for BOOTS. Only last year, I started going regularly to Boots for prescriptions. I have noted on a number of occasions, there`s been alot of hassel with that confounded barrier at the prescription counter. I`ve been in the queue with other`s in front of me, then someone, for the same reason for the rest of us being there, has come along the other side of the barrier, and jumped their turn, and they know it. I`ve complained twice about that barrier, it serves no purpose, and I`ve seen hassel between other customer`s. Anyone else?

13:1436158I occasionally use M & S and always find the staff very helpful, I don't mind queuing in the store as they are always very courteous which seems to be a vanishing trait these days
