It would make a lot of sense if they were to turn the old Sainsbury building into housing rather than leave it to rot. I thought something might happen when the roof was repaired but the place is still empty.

Lot of scaffolding outside don't know exactly what for but I noticed inside that the unit right at the back is now being used as an office by the new manager, seems sensible as no business has been able to make a go of it there. The shop next to the cafe on the entrance side is being refurbished for the next trader to move in.

That one is going to be a greengrocers, was told the office was for imformation, like if you loose your way around the centre or trying to find a certain shop etc. With all the comings and goings and power shifting down there maybe it could be the subject for a new weekly tv soap opera.

I'm sure there was a greengrocers in there before next to the furniture shop. I might be wrong but I think they had a bakery in situ.

They have tried to have a successful greengrocer where Howard says more times than I can remember.
They start off with nice fresh fruit and veg which gradually gets older and staler as time goes on, with Asda, Morrisons, Iceland and Farm Foods very near they are on a loser after a few days.

I dont wish to be negative but i agree with what you say Jan.It would be good to see small shops make a comeback but since supermarkets have taken off, shopping habits have changed so much. The pace of life is so fast now that most want to buy everything in just one store as its less hassle, very few have the time to go from shop to shop to get their weekly grocerys. In general, most supermarkets are very strict on quality so you get the best and with their buying power they can offer much better prices than a small independant shop. All the same i wish them the best of luck and yes Brian,i also know them.

Using my powers of deduction Brian uses Farthingloe farm, in fact I think he was heading down there earlier. The only thing is that they had a unit there before and didn't keep it open very long.

I found it cheaper buying what you need when you need freash fruit and veg cheaper from local greengrocers, rather than buying bulk bags of veg from super markets.

Sorry to see that the ladieswear shop at the front has a closure notice outside, seemed fairly busy at times when I went past.
The hairdresser at the junction of High St and Bridge St has closed but another tenant is moving in soon.

Back on the subject of the greengrocers, has it opened yet? Walked through last week and i was surprised to see it was still empty. Also the boot fair has now finished. With less and less stalls each week they decided to call it a day.

The greengrocers has not opened as of yesterday Andy, the shop next to it that sells anything and everything was shuttered up too. The shop next to the cafe is still being renovated. Pity about the boot fair some hardy souls there as it is like a wind tunnel and must have been dreadful during the Winter months.

The greengrocers was not open this morning and the sign was still up advertising the boot fair.
