19:2938512Well, is there going to be a stampede there when it opens? Is it going to be the best store around? Personally, I suspect before the year is out, at least one store will close because of it. I`m just hoping that Morrisons prices will compete with, if not better, their rivals up the top of the hill. Hope the car parks can cope. Your views.

19:3438513i am told that their fresh food and bakery is excellent colin.
i will try not to cry too much for the "every little helps" people.
they will survive on custom from whitfield and people that use the roads around there.
just nice to have a major supermarket available to local people.

19:4138514Yes Howard, badly needed in town. My elder sister who lives in Blackpool, has always used Morrisons up there, and throughout the 90s, whenever I was up there, the wife and I were always in there for foodstuff. I find the Folkestone branch somewhat cramped, but hoping our one is more spacious. I shall be comparing prices next week with my regular items from my regular supermarket. Watch this space!

20:4238532you mentioned that to me about the cheriton branch when we last met colin.
i understand that morrisons dominated the northern markets for years before moving down to the midlands and south.
i also remember reading that the chap who started it, used to pay surprise visits to branches, loot through the skips and make song and dance about any waste.
he reasoned that stuff nearing its use by date should be thrust to the front at a give away price.
in those days he was considered a miser, today he would lauded.

21:3038537Yes, they were much more up north than down here as I remember Howard, as my sister could never find one down here when she came down, and yes, they did have a superb fresh bakery.

16:0438580We have been using Morrisons in Canterbury and/or Folkestone for over a year now. They are far better than Tesco, their food prices are better than most others, and their petrol/diesel is much cheaper than all others. I paid £1.10 per litre for diesel there yesterday; Tesco is currently £1.13, so no competition.
Best of all, though, is that Morrisons don't think they're doing you a favour by letting you shop there. I am delighted to see Morrisons in Dover, and I hope their presence is the start of the renaissance of London Road.

21:1238698Just off to Morrisons now, to sleep outside all night in my sleeping bag and be the first in the store in the morning for the bargains.

21:2338706A bit of New Years day fun Ian. I should imagine they`ll be a queue there tomorrow, but as I`m working, maybe someone will be able to post a picture on here of the stampede. If I was off, I`d be up tesco with most of the store to myself.

11:2838739Good luck to Morrisons. Good news at last. I hope it's the start of some sort of revival for the town's dismal shopping experience. Shame they can't bulldoze the Charlton Centre (please!) and thereby link Morrisons visually to the rest of the high street, maybe with a spur road (wishful thinking, I know). It's rather tucked away over there on Maison Dieu Road. Sure it will do well, though - and hopefully not at the expense of other retailers in the town centre.

11:3438741Went this morning to have a look - it was packed! What I saw I liked; it was very crowded, and it won't always be thus, especially at 9.15 on a Monday morning! Good luck to Morrisons, and to the parent company - thank you for having the faith to set up shop in Dover. If only all major retailers did so..........

12:5738751I'm surprised that their address is given as Bridge Street and not Maison Dieu Road. Out of interest I used their route planner to find out how to get there. Yup, it takes you to Bridge Street missing their car park.

Perhaps Im just nit picking. We'll give it a whirl on Friday on the way back from getting petrol at ASDA!

12:5938755Incidentally, it seems to use Multimap which for some reason calls the Terrace Beaconsfield Road!
