08:0539399Ross has, as usual, hit the nail on the head with post #35. I agree there will be a honeymoon period, but I think the draw of town shopping rather than trekking up to Whitfield will be an asset - I hope they capitalise on it. Absolutely agree we need to make the passage from Charlton to Town Centre attractive and I am confident Roger is on the case! This is an opportunity we should not miss!!

13:5040396One of my sister in laws informs me that people are driving round in circles trying to park at Morrisons, this being a reason for me still shopping at tescos at the moment, as I have no patience in that respect. Any suggestions on the best time to do my first hassle free visit? Tescos were very busy this morning, with a shortage of till staff, whilst I noted 2 staff helping with the self service set up, which to me seems a bit of a flop, with a few ordinary tills unmanned, (or unwomaned?). Does anyone know the original intention of the self service set up was? It certainly doesn`t look like it will ever replace staff.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

Been nice knowing you :)

15:0440401Absolutely Paul - it's to reduce staff costs.
The next step is for RFID tags in all items to replace bar-codes. At this point you will only need to walk through an airport type scanner arch to be faced with the bill for all the items you are carrying (including any that you might have 'accidentally' put in your pocket!).
At this point goodbye check out staff.....

21:2440438Spot on Bob. RFID is the future, and it's not very far off for this type of application.

09:2240474Colin, simply put, RFID is a method of radio tagging pieces of stuff so they can be tracked/traced. As they pass through a scanning device the tag is read and acted on accordingly. It is most commonly used in airports for tracking the movement of luggage/baggage.
