They are open from 5am - 11pm
Anyone tried it yet?

not yet ross, been past looks ok but the doors are closed and uninviting.
yet a look through the windows shows the place to be nicely done out inside.
they must be expecting the bulk of their trade to people walking to the station, there is no chance of stopping a car outside.
you're a commuter, try it out and let us all know what you think.
Well that's a relief. Just what we need, yet another noshery. How do they expect to survive?

Howard, I`m trying to work out how by looking through the windows, you`re able to see how nice it looks done out outside? Be easier looking at it from the outside to save you looking inside the windows, to see how nice the outside looks.

I shall pay a visit soon Ross and report back to base.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

I take it that's the old Alma that was refused permission for a takeaway.
With the opening of the "Pantry" in London Road, "Mark's Cafe" has diversified into s/h furniture and tools!

I suppose any new business is good for the town and worthy of our support.
The old Alma has many happy memories for me....so do a lot of other boozers...anyone else remember the Saluatation or the Regent?

The Salutation had what was billed at the time as Dover's first cocktail bar (so my mum tells me - it had cocktail-ish rivals in The Met Bars in New Street and The Shakespeare Bars at The Crypt in Bench Street, of course). I went in there once before it closed, after which it became a very short-lived Pizza Hut. It was a nice pub.
The Prince Regent was notorious, wasn't it? My dad used to warn me when I was a kid that it was the sort of pub where you'd 'go upstairs to collect your change'. I didn't understand what he meant at the time. I do now.
I remember going in The Friend In Need in Peter Street just before it closed, too. Me and my mates were about 18 and were attacked by a huge wolfhound as we walked into the bar. Or it might have been the landlord - the memory's kind of hazy.
Then there was The Arlington, The Mogul, the...well, the list goes on and on and on. How much this town has lost. Truly tragic.
See you in the King Billy for a bottle of Mackeson - chin chin!
