My congratulations to Sue on her second term as Mayor, an excellent choice! and Big Dave on his election as Deputy Mayor especially after all the hard work he has put in over the years, as PaulB says, a long time coming. Well Done!

Forgive me raising this point again - and I'm not trying to be awkward, but Keith, when you say about Labour Party decisions, are you talking about (unelected) Labour Party decisions, or (elected) Labour Town Councillor decisions ?
If it's the former (unelected Labour Party decisions) then that must be wrong surely ? If you are saying the decisions are made by the elected Labour Town Councillors, that that must be more democratic.

I real;ise you are attempting to make political gain but I will answer your question;
The decision is made by LANBOUR TOWN COUNCILLORS NO one else

I wasn't trying to make any political gain Keith - what gain can be made ?
Thank you kindly for the clarification though - have a happy Easter.

If a Councillor is elected as a Labour councillor surely that councillor does not have to follow every partyline but on an issue like who the next Mayor should be has the right to a free vote. That seems more democratic to me or am I missing something?

LABOUR CLLRS Have the right to nominate at there meeting who they want,
If a reasonable argument was put up to elect an indie then if the majority go for it then thats the decision.
Whats happening is, in a free vote people are put forward then a decision made on this, and sadly behind closed doors other plans are secretly hatched!!!
I'm not a town cllr(or cllr come to that)
and each othe experienced labour cllrs have a choice, its about winning the debate, having had the debate then surely abide by that decision?
Whats the point otherwise?

What you are describing sounds like double-dealing and back stabbing ie saying one thing and doing another.Bad for politics of any party.

Hooray i think you have got my point.
the rebel 4 labour cllrs didnt abide by the decision but then went behind closed doors knowing a democratic decision had been made.
I always recall being at a meeting where a labour cllr at sa labour meeting was an isolated discussiuon point, she tried to speak but was outnumbered.
I told the chair he will hear her view, whether its agreed with is neither here nor there but she will be heard.
In the end because she put up a reasonable debate she was partly agreed with,
But whether or not I agree with a person I wil always defend there right to speak

i was always told that it was by invitation only.
last year in here it transpired that anyone could go, i don't know whether one has to apply for tickets in advance or we camp outside the night before.

It is the reception afterwrds that is by invitation.
I am so glad I do not belong to a 'club' that feels my vote is bought and paid for.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Your playing politics and i dont blame you.
You have told me how you have stood up to mr H when he wanted a vote a certain way and you disagreed.
And I have told you of another alliance party cllr who also told me she was INSTRUCTED TO vote a CERTAIN WAY, and told mr H where to go.
So please don't give out this whiter than white stuff.
I have explained clearly it is a DEMOCRATIC decision

keith are wrong, just because someone joins a party does not mean they must toe the line, they are individials who can vote in whoever they want to . Viv Revil is useless and its madness labour members wanting her more in the public eye as deputy mayor . This is one lady that is not liked up here. One saying she should remeber careless talk costs votes! thank god Sue got back in is all i will say.
