I'm really pleased that Sue has been chosen again - I think she's been the best mayor ever (well, since Paul Sheldrake, anyway
). Congratulations to David as well, a good choice. I wonder if you've joined the Labour party, David?
True friends stab you in the front.

Well done Sue.. You have been very active in the last twelve months and it is good that many of the initiatives that you have started will have continuity.
Also congrats to David

Sincere congratulations to you both. Sue has been an outstanding Mayor and David is the best Mayor Dover to date has not had. Both inspired choices.

Well I was right and yes she is a good Mayor.
Thank you but please note - the phrase is ELECT we have the final vote at mayor making.
I belong to the Dover Alliance which is technically a Party but we vote as we will and dont believe in Politics at Town level (
www.doveralliance.org.uk) , Andy, but thank you.
In 7 years of committment to the DTC I have always supported the Mayors but Sue is extraordinary and has my full backing - I hope to leave the Council at the end of the year having achieved something positive but now is not exactly the time to celebrate as there is a lot of hard work in hand and I have my sleeves rolled up already. Sue is also very busy and will be this year.
Thank goodness, 2 people that I really enjoy working with, congrats to both !

Congrats to Big Dave, a very welcome appointment indeed, its been a long time coming so is something of a shock..although, I may not be able to call him Big Dave anymore, not now that he is an even bigger wig than before.
Sue Jones has certainly done very well in her first year and we can tell by the posts above that she is a popular choice. Good luck to Sue and good luck to David. Lets hope the year gets off to a more harmonious start than last year.

If all goes according to plan, it should be a very good year for Dover too (barring more shop closures).
Congratulations (maybe prematurely) to Sue and David.

JOHN
I do apologise but I must say summat!!!!!!!
I think I will again go over the Issue, you will recall that all those cllrs that stood as LABOUR cllrs signed up to abide by labour party decisions, and yep the party as always met to decide in a democratic vote who they would put forward as a LABOUR nomination for mayor. dep mayor.
NOW lets take this that one step further, I'M not against any indy standing tory or whomever, thats grand, what I'm against, is the rebel 4 so called labour persons went the labour meeting and knew full well who the nominaton would be.
The rebel 4 then decided not to vote in this direction.
Of course the rebel 4 probably wouldn't even be cllrs had it not been for the work put in by labour members/helpers canvassing, leafleting to get them elected, and then they do see.
Let me make myself clear, I have no issue if these rebel 4 had the guts to stand as indies, or indy labour or whatever and resigned there seats and stood as indies, at least I and others would know where they stood.
At the moment these 4 are using the labour party and i have to be honest they have lost my support.
I have to say one of the 4 whom i don't have a lot of time for or support, I did appreciate her belief in democracy, and she would always fight for decisions made whether she agreed or not she would abide by that decision, these last few months/year has opened my eyes.
These are my personal thoughts that those 4 who find they cannot support the labour decision should do the honourable thing and resign there seats, and by all means stand again as Indies or whatever.
And finally, please don't be taken in by David H and his indy bit.
The alliance will have met and i suspect the rebel 4 with them.
But thats not of interest to me.
Because it would be wrong of me to question how much any mayor/ has done I won't go down that route.
I'TS just sad the rebel 4 couldn't do the honorable thing

How anyone could hold a grudge against Big David baffles me?I have always found him to be a perfect gentlemen.

i think that keith is making the point that all labour councillors were instructed how to vote, 4 did the opposite.
none of us are happy about the party thing at that level, but keith makes a very valid case for labour councilors voting as one.
i do not think keith was having a dig at david H.

Surely the position of Mayor is little more than a figurehead and carries little or no political sway in todays local politics. Therefore Labour Councillors should be allowed to vote for whomsoever they wish rather than follow party doctrine.

I would not have a go at David H (APART FROM political discussion) no, HOWARD is correct the rebel 4 are those 4 that dont accept DEMOCRATIC decisions.
I think i have explained my reasoning,
Let me expand a little further I even share MAREK's view that the town council maybe could even be run non politically.
I have even suggested the same in the past to the labour party. but at the mo they wont move that far.
At least then the rebel 4 labour cllrs would have to fight for there seats as indies rather than hide behind a party, agree to abide by the DEMOCRATC decisions upon being selected by the party, no soone are they elected then they go against all they signed up to.
No, for me it stinks, if the 4 truely believe they have the support of the local community then resign and stand again as indies in a bye election.

thanks for info terry.
maybe we should make it a forum event, can be some blood letting at this ceremony.
keith
you are right on this one, most candidates of the two main parties get their vote on the party ticket.
it would be good to think that all town councillors stood on their CV and achievements.
we would then get good representation, i seems to happen on some parish councils.
