Interesting to see what happens next with the Illegal Migration Bill. Part of me still thinks the government would prefer it to run out of parliamentary time, thus providing an excuse, rather than royal assent and having to implement it.

@665 Read it, wasn't worth it
Andrew Neil had no answers, either.
Also, to the best of my knowledge he has made little to no useful productive contribution to the UK himself, as it seems he has done nothing but media work and journalism.
Perhaps it would be a good idea if degrees in journalism were extended by 2 years to include some work in fields, construction, manufacturing, services etc.
Then journalists would actually have some experience in those occupations that they are telling the rest of us we should be doing

All of which makes him a paragon of objective, analytical and unbiased journalism, does it? Untainted by the influence of the likes of Murdoch. How blissfully naive.

As ever, more futile deflection. I don't read The Spectator (or The Speccy, as you aficionados like to call it). I'm surprised you just didn't do your Cameron impression again and break into 'calm down, dear' bleats.

News from Europe.
MEP Nicolas Bay Slams EU's Migration Policies:
"8.4 million migrants have asked for refugee status in the EU since 2014. It's almost the equivalent of Austria's population. They will keep coming by the millions as long as you keep welcoming them and redistributing them.
It's your fault if some of them die at sea, taking all risks, driven by your laxness, your blindness, and your distorted humanitarianism. You want to organize their arrival using maritime taxis, playing into the hands of the mafias and human traffickers, who get richer and richer with this illegal and abject business.
They are not refugees. They aren't fleeing from any persecution. They aren't fleeing from any war. They are not eligible to receive refugee status. They come in order to benefit from our welfare state, our infinite generosity. In return for this, they always bring us poverty, often crime, and sometimes even terrorism.
We will have to choose: either your sanctimony or our identity. Either the reception of millions of young men who will never assimilate, as the ethnic riots which have devastated France in the last days have shown, or the safety of our people and our children. Like all the defenders of our civilization, who reject your insane policies, I have made my choice. You have made yours, and history will judge you."

Still as puerile as ever, I see.

I get the impression you really believe this hateful and mendacious garbage. What do you think is happening in Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea? Just to acquaint you with a few facts: the UK is home to a tiny fraction of the world's refugees. Turkey is home to 3.1 million, Germany 2.1million. Our so called 'illegals' were around 230,000 in November last year. We receive far fewer asylum applications per head than the EU average. Three-quarters of asylum claims from those arriving in the UK are successful in the first instance; and around half of those who appeal after their initial rejection get the decision overturned by the Home Office. The biggest issues in the asylum system are the number of people risking their lives to cross the Channel in small boats, which has steadily increased as it has become more difficult to travel to the UK by other means, and the huge delays in processing asylum claims. For many people, they are taking years to process, creating higher costs for the taxpayer and keeping traumatised individuals who are entitled to refugee status trapped in the limbo of abject poverty, unable to work and pay taxes.
Why not try listening to someone with the experience and emotional intelligence to take an unbiased view. Alf Dubs - the perfect antidote to Nicholas Bay.

You've posted before that you don't beieve there is such a thing as emotional intelligence - an abject misunderstanding of the facts. The reality is that emotional intelligence is a concept beyond your ability to grasp. Hence I fear we will continue to have to endure your vitriolic outbursts.

Emotional Intelligence? Goleman was an even bigger fraud than Howard Gardner with his theory of multiple intelligences!
It's what you say to parents of thick kids
'Perhaps they've got another sort of intelligence'?
The only intelligence worth measuring is IQ.
Brought to you by the numbers one hundred and fifty five.

Genuinely amusing how you manage to underscore the very point I'm making seemingly without realising you're doing it! Any readers of this forum can do their own even superficial research to understand that emotional intelligence is a known and demonstrable phenomenon. You pretend it doesn't exist simply because you don't have the emotional or intellectual capacity to understand it.
Doesn't say much for your self-professed 155. Go and find another ostrich graphic and post that in response. I can't help but feel it's a more accurate reflection of your capabilities.
That's you, Haddoock, that is.

While posts #676-678 may demonstrate that intelligence has a fair supply of handbags, the heavy weapons are carried by imagination and intellect.
