Two words: nail, head.
Colin, I don't agree with the corruption thing. To my knowledge only one councillor has ever been accused of something as underhand as that, and he has been mayor more than once subsequently and is still a prominent figure in the Labour party here in Dover. I don't mention his name because I'm not sure he has ever been convicted. The point is, we are served by local folks who have stood up to be counted, put their money where their mouth is etc. To the best of my knowledge they are all passionate and honest lads and ladettes.
The problem seems to me to be vision. There is no cohesive vision for Dover, and that is no surprise bearing in mind how many cooks there are in the ktichen. Let's name some of the interested parties working to their own agenda in our town: KCC, DDC, DTC, various parish councils, SEEDA, CoC, private developers, P&O, Norfolk Line, DHB, SeaFrance, English Heritage, WCCTA, Labour Party, Conservatives, LibDems, UKIP, Dover Pride, Dover Society, LRF..... and so it goes on. Consequently, we suffer from a lack of vision, joined up thinking and single goals to aim for. Public consultation is nothing more than a sop, and the public can't be bothered because they know it's all talk.
What a shame therefore that our MP's for the last 30+ years have also failed to provide a visionary capable of galvanising all the aforementioned bodies into a single "fighting for Dover" unit, with a common goal related to dragging Dover forward. Sadly, I don't see Charlie as a visionary either, so maybe the local MP is the last person to consider for that role?

Sid, when I used the word corruption, rather than pointing to any individual, I`m talking in a completely non political, and totally independant sense, that it`s the only picture I see, the reason being, that with my total lack of knowledge on how towns are run, I can`t think what else it could be. Everyone on here must be aware by now, that I have no political party or views, and that I`m a completely new kid on the block as it were, and my words are of what I hear family and freinds saying who have no knowledge of how councils or government actually work. Like me, they see empty building`s, desolate spaces sitting there waiting for the value to go up and then sell at a tidy profit, while the likes of members on here and the commoner in the streets criticize our rundown buildings and towns. Everyone on here can see whats wrong and what needs doing, urgently. Why are the powers that be not reacting to it all!

Especially when I use it. Thank you Bern. As I`ve said before on here, sometimes the words I use may not be taken in the right context. I always state my views as I personally see them, but am always open for other views which I may not have thought of. In this case, I just can`t see anything else.

Why mention his name Howard ?

I thought it was Fred Davis, Howard? And then we found out he wasn't innocent after all!

We seem to have gone a bit of track with this thread! To bring it back to the original post, how about moving the bandstand to the Granville Gardens - replacing the miner - and creating an excellent outdoor venue for summer concerts on the seafront? This would also recreate the scence in the early 1900s when there was a bandstand in the Gardens. Perhaps this could be included in the wider DHB plans for Terminal 2? They have said they would welcome ideas from the public on the use of the beach and seafront.

Kevin this was said some years ago when I was chairman of the events Comm/on the Town council and we were told No and that it could not go there or anywhere along the front.
Vic, that was only because a lot of public money had already been spent putting it where it is now.
