Went up from Sandwich through Faversham to Sittingbourne for work last week and the roads are just as bad. I wonder if there's any road repairs going on in the county?
Not pot holes, but the Alkham Valley Road railway bridge in Kearsney has some overnight closures coming up.

If click on this link, it goes to a map that shows where individuals have reported pot holes. Just zoom in on Dover,

The top picture shows how ridiculous the potholes filling strategy is.
All around the white paint there's a rubbish surface, but that's not going to be repaired.
So in a few months/years the road repairers will be back again.
Whole roads need to be resurfaced in one go.

And the patches just create a lovely bumpy surface. And they just erode around their edges.

Could the majority of potholes appear because the road are not resurfaced properly in the first place. Why do they no longer remove the old surface before putting fresh tarmac down like they always used to.
The present system is similar to putting a layer on paint on straight top of the old stuff after a while it simply peels off.

they usually do scrape old layer of and put fresh on if resurfacing, not sure if there are different methods or types of surface available other than concrete. But with some of the roads so busy nowadays I don't think they last long. Where ever you drive there are holes and ruts or the bumps/dips from old road works. Even the motorways, although I don't like the concrete ones at least I know less chance of cracks and holes. There is a crater down Alkham valley on the left you need to dodge and then quickly shift back over before you hit one on other side of your lane. The patching only works for so long they need to actually do a proper large resurface of parts of the roads.

I have seen some horrendous ones in the area recently and they are dangerous as Darren says people have to take avoiding action, we pay a lot of money to use the roads and surely the powers that be have a duty of care to the users. A series of holes and trip hazards would not be acceptable in a supermarket aisle for instance, why are these dangers allowed on the road?

I was told long ago that the materials used on roads in this country are inferior to the ones used in Germany and other West European countries.

Its all politics at the end of the day, and money. If you pay for one thing something else looses out, and costs only keep rising.
Must admit that idea of a 50p levy on cross channel cars/lorries (foreign) would be a good idea and to put that money into the infrastructure. It would also be good if all the road tax money went on the roads and their upkeep. I know there is the argument of more roads leads to more traffic but at least have the necessary investment in upkeep and maintenance which has been neglected for far too long in what roads we do have.
