09:0366163Reading the Dover Express today how lovely to see words of praise for DDC .The article was regarding the Dover Carnival .I know the work that DDC events group put into events so pleased to see the praise .
Sadly as a member I cannot always answer postings on here but there is always two sides to a story .

11:5266177Can't wait to buy the DE and see what it has to say. I might be able tell Mandie that DDC is now organising the carnival as they are getting all the praise for it.
One question. How much money does DDC actually put into the Dover Carnival? Officers time is already paid for by the tax payer so cannot be counted. I also know how much getting DCAL off the ground cost me, Terrismark and others of the original committee who put their hands in their pockets for the town.

20:1266206you are speaking without reading the article sid, it was basically pointing out that a cove by the name of friend was stepping in to save the day and wanted no plaudits for it.

21:2666220Stepping in? How so? Does Mandie know? If we're talking Linda Friend I thought she worked for DTC. Am I beign forced to buy a newspaper?

22:2766236It seems as usual Sue.... You Miss the point... It sure is amazing that you enjoy telling everyone what is private business to the general public, love telling us when you or your children are not well....... But TOTALLY miss the point when I inform you of my recent illness and personal Problems.... Or is it just a case I AM NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE THEM Just got to keep trying to plod on in a town that really isnt bothered anyway???? There are very few of us who get off their backsides and do stuff for Dover
It is no secret that John Trickey from Deal is Helping me... UNLIKE DDC and Dover Town Council.. We all Try to work together as much as possible In carnival to provide the town and the people a day of fun
No One Has Asked me for my opinion from the press, but then due to my condition I have limited myself drastically to things like answering calls Visitors etc... but they all know where I live
I love the way this town Kicks People when They are down... And you wonder why people cannot be bothered... well I personally think it is pretty obvious..
It is time there was less back biting and quick digs sue, which you seem to enjoy, and more pro active action... before you and others who do the same drive those who want to do something good for this town to say ... stick it

22:3166240So, Mandie, (hope you are on the mend) do I take it the DDC Events Committee are doing a bit of self publicising and not actually helping as claimed?
Howard, I'll raid the kids money box for the shrapnel to buy the local DE, thanks for the offer.

22:3366243maybe our susan will purchase a new hat to recompense this unwarranted attack on her?
19 August 2010
22:3766246Unwarranted? How so? It appears DDC Events Committe are claiming credit for something they actually haven't done. It seems to me that at the least, an infirm Mandie is exasperated by the claim, knowing full well that Mr Trickey is the one providing the assistance.
Sorry Howard, I think our Sue does have some explaining to do.

the report was very brief, our susan only commented on that here on the forum.
a mr friend was mentioned in the article.
in short nigels susan is blameless in this matter.

22:4566257Well I think this all very easy to resolve with a simple three point plan.
1. I suggest Mandie takes a back seat and concentrates on her health.
2. Mr Trickey should focus his attention on his own area.
3. Mr Friend and DDC Events Committee can then get on with organising the carnival. Shouldn't be a problem if they are already publicising they are its saviours.

22:5066263Thank you Howard .I m not sure why Im being attacked .I have never ever come on here stating my family are ill or indeed myself .Im sorry Mandie you are unwell but appears a Mr Friend is doing Dover Carnival a good turn .I was just quoting from the paper .I cannot or even comment on any details re DDC Events Committee .I suggest Sid me old mate you read the paper before commenting .It would appear some one is trying to get the Carnival on the road .
I hope it does go ahead .
Im too busy with my events in River.

22:5066264Sid...
I agree with your first point, ones health is much more important than almost anything else I can think of.

23:0666274Sue/Howard, I am at a disadvantage not having seen the article, agreed. However, are you both not confused that Mr Friend is is being touted as hero of the day for Dover Carnival, when all those involved with it's planning and organisation haven't even heard of or from him? Well, apart from the DE article of course.
Howard, recommend you speak to anyone who has to deal with the Events Committee, you may take a different view of things after.
These are the people who wanted a static display (on the seafront wher access is virtually impossible for the major floats) rather than a parade, no salutes to the Mayor of Dover (because they are outranked by the faceless one from DDC), no break in the parade to give the young marching kids a breather (the police insisted on it despite claims to the contrary from DDC EC), the parade to run after closing time when shops are closed and the town centre is empty. I could go on and on, and if Mr Trickey were asked the same question the list of obstacles and plainly stupid recommendations from this body would be frightening.
Quite simply , for someone to claim in the press they are stepping in to save the day without those involved knowing of or about them is an outrage to those who give their all for these events. Remember, one day for Dover, but a year for the folks putting the show on.

23:1266276Mr Friend Or Dave as I know him IS part of Deal Committee... Dave Has been drawing up all The NEW plans we are required to submit on behalf of Dover as he understands what is required having completed the same documents for Deal.... Dover And Deal Have been working together...
I have known Dave and his wife for almost 2 years and yes he is very good at preparing the documents NONE of us at Dover Have had explained to us.... I hardly think this is someone stepping in and saving the day.... Dover And Deal Carnival operate and always have done since 2004 as a united front for the good of carnival...
YEAH SUE YA RIGHT ON ONE THING DOES MAKE YA THINK WHY BOTHER... Not a job I get paid to do now is it ??????????

11:5366304Ouch! A lot of bitterness here... What a shame when everyone really only wants what is good for Dover and it's people.
