We do have a many OAPS in River and they have to finance our Recreation ground .You live in Dover and like me you pay for Pemcester ,Connaught etc .You donot through the Town Council precept pay for any parks .It comes out of the DDC precept .so if you live in a village like Whitfield ,Alkham etc you are double rated .
What do you get for your Town Council precept ?.A bandstand ,High Meadow ,a bit of Western Heights and of course a lot of Civic Stuff .
It really is quite right that we pay for our amenities - we use them! I have no quibbles about taxation, but I do like to be able to see the results clearly. Sometimes we can, but often we cannot, and the poor communication delivered by all the local organisations and authorities does not help!

Really Sue I expected better of you! Do I pay into the Rates of River? Not directly no however I do have a relative who worked those grounds for 30 years and grew up with River Recreation Ground as my playground and I think that entitles me to a say dont you!
I am sure that your Chairman is a very decent man however, surely even you can agree that questions should be asked if the Contractor is the husband of the Parish Clerk??
I did not expect your support Sue and neither did Jim but we expected reasoned arguments and answers.

"I disagree Bern all the preperation work for the Bowling Green had been carried out prior to the take over "
I have forwarded this quote of yours to Jim, Sue. I am certain that he will not like taking the blame for the demise of the bowling green in the last 2 months when it has been in a pristene condition for the last 31 years.

Sadly this happens when someone leaves....even if they have been great. Turn your back in local government at any level, and the knives hurl towards you with barely a pause.
Sue could you please answer the question that has been asked about whether the 2 people mentioned are in fact related. It appears as usual that this thread is going off the question being asked, and I cannot help but ask if this is being done deliberate, to avoid the answer
SOMEONE JUST TELL US THE TRUTH !!!!
A quick gander at the criteria used in the tendering process might be helpful, too.............

THe previous contract for locking the gates to the rec was held by Connaght .It went to tender and a Mr Wright a local guy was awarded it .He is related to the clerk but full tender proceedures were observed .I dont think Jim held the contract for this part of Rec operations /.
IM sure Jim would be most upset that he is being talked about .Last year he was rather cross to say the least with his niece .In fact he apologised for any misguided information ./
I think this is a private matter for Jim j and as I understand he understood why his tender was not accepted .
I think I shall have to start looking at other Parish Councils maybe Whitfield or Ash Maybe you could start looking into DDC contracts pleasant way to spend a sunny day .Sheli if you had attended the AGM you could have asked the questions .The people present could have answered .all ten councillors were present plus of course the clerk .

what are the odds on a reply to both issues?
There is nothing private about council tendering and the delivery of council services....we pay for them. I note, also, that Sue is making assumptions again..........
I am rather afraid we are past the point of being satisfied when any politician claims that, for example, "tendering procedures were observed" and will often need proof. I think this may be the result in part of expenses claims being laundered at head office in Westminster!!!!!

Sue, just for your information Jim asked me to start this thread as he is also looking for answers.
Jim had the Grounds and the Cleaning Contract (but if you want to call it locking the gates that fine!!) I recall Jim going in to clean the changing rooms after somebody decided to smear the walls with horse manure from the road outside. Mr Wright has the cleaning contract does he or does he not???
I had no intention of attending your AGM Sue, but I would have thought that 1 of your 10 councillors would have had the courtesy to say something to Jim!!

best give up sheli, we will never find out what happened about the tendering.
The level of secrecy and subterfuge in local authorities is disappointing, as is the tendency to trivialise someones contribution when they are no longer there to defend (as if they needed it) themselves. Can we not have a straight answer, just for once, just for a laugh?

May I suggest Jim contacts the Parish Council direct .This is not the place to discuss why he did not get the contract .That is a matter for River Parish Council. When the Chairman talked to Jim at the end of his contract then was the time to ask questions .
