must have been a freudian slip from our susan, must be an outbreak of conscience brought on by interfering with the pleasures of common people.

Thanks for all your comments I have printed them off for Jim who I know will appreciate them.
I have looked at the minutes and cant find much in them either, however what I can tell you is that Jim's contract was always for the cleaning and the grounds. The grounds have gone to a firm in Ashford, the cleaning side of the contract could have gone a little closer to home!!!
I'm not big on who's who at River Parish Council as I am a Whitfield resident and I could be mistaken or it could just be co-incidence but the Cleaning Contract seems to have gone to someone with a name fairly similar to that of a person involved in the Council! I do hope I am mistaken, perhaps you could shed some light on this for me Sue?
Much appreciated, disgruntled neice of much loved Uncle, Michelle xx

sheli
does your uncle know the name of the new contractor?
our susan said earlier that all details are on the river parish council website.
i checked at the time, and again this evening, and there is no reference to any change in who does the grounds.
A little clarity, please!! May we have names?

The Chairman came and thanked Jimmy in person however there was no letter of thanks not even with the final invoice pretty poor show after 31 years!
The Parish Clerk is Jane Carson Wright and the Cleaning Contract I believe has gone to her husband Mr Wright - apparently he did have to tender for it!
I also would like to point out that there has been alot of money spent out there taking out the playground (that Sue fought hard to get!) for what!! Ask the Chairman I believe he prefers it that way.
Its April and the bowling green is already looking dead! Well Done River Parish Council!
Thanks Michelle x

we must assume that all tenders were in sealed envelopes and all opened together in front of the council members.

If someone from the Standards Board was reading this Forum, alarm bells would ring.

You can go along to the A.G.M. in May and make your points in public.

Howard
Not sure who you are referring to there, if it's Sue, she's not a Parish Councillor, so she wouldn't be affected or involved; if there are/were serious goings on as reported on Deal Town Council, it will be pursued and can be reported to the Standard Board for England - the requirement for "standards" is as important for a Parish Council as it is for a Town and District.
I wouldn't have thought that the Chairman of River Parish Council (a very well respected man) would have allowed anything untoward to happen under his Chairmanship.

not referring to any particular individual roger.
there was no reference to the cleaning contract on the parish council website up until 2 days ago, whether this has changed or not, i do not know.
i fully agree about things being looked into, deal town council certainly seems to have its problems.
one of our silent members is on there, perhaps he could give his side of the story.

Hi Guys,
A little birdy tells me that the new contractors (not the cleaners) for the grounds put in a request for a 30% increase at the Parish Meeting this month!!! Apparently they cant do the job for the amount originally tendered.
I hope that River Parish Council do not give in to the demands of this Company from Ashford after taking the contract away from a local man who had worked those grounds for 30 years!!
I would love to hear from anyone from the Bowling Club or Tennis Club at River, particularly as there is practically no grass on the bowling green!!
Just a little update for you.

I was at the meeting and that is not what I heard .It was agreed you have to wait for a year to see whether there is an improvement or detriation to the grounds .The bowling green was looked after until recently by the previous contactor .
You cannot judge on less than two months work
Yes you can, actually, although clearly it takes longer to guage the full effects of a change of management.

I disagree Bern all the preperation work for the Bowling Green had been carried out prior to the take over .We need to let the new contractors bed in before we judge .Sheli and Bern you pay into River Rates now do you /.Were you at the AGM .Our Chairman of Parish Council is a very decent man as is the chairman of the Recreation committee .
Dont worry if i see standards slipping I shall ask why .The Ground made a loss of
over £26,000 last year. .So OAPs like myself will raise the questions
Dont forget we have to pay for the up keep of all the parks and play areas owned by DDC .like other rate payers of the district .So in River we pay for our own park plus Pencester,Connaght etc .So I think our Parish Council are aware of the costs ..
Do I have to contribute financially to River to hold an opinion about horticulture or contracting? Can I assume that River residents don't pay more than other residents but benefit from all parks available to the public? I don't recall anyone casting aspertions about anyone on any committees either.
Sue - I cannot think of any other OAPs who are like yourself!!!!
