surely crime prevention is the best investment whether police or pcso's.
anything other than the patrols that rarely spot something ammiss.
Howard I agree, but unless things changed while I was in Nigeria, PCSO's don't have the power of arrest. If that is true, there usefulness is surely limited.

I think your last point Sid about powers, is very valid.
PCSO's have very limited powers and it is the Chief Constable of Kent I believe, who decide what powers they can have.
Many other Counties' PCSO's have many more powers than ours (Kent) do, so it certainly isn't the fault of the PCSOs, but what they are limited to do.
The ones we've had in the Maxton ElmsVale and Priory Ward, have been worth their weight in Gold.

Roger, thank you. I am not blaming the PCSO's here as I am sure they are diligent in their duties, just the thought processes behind appointing powerless law officers.
My point is this, and it is very simple, law officeers need the power to arrest. If you're not going to give PCSO's proper powers then why have them?
