Possibly Lesley saw the same stuff as is presently everywhere in the Dover Strait as discussed previously, a seasonal algal bloom. A Google seems to corroborate this: "Although I doubt this is the reason for the clumps of foam that you see below the falls. What you are seeing is the result of decaying organics. The same algae plants and diatoms that give the water its fluorescent color also contribute to the grayish foam you see floating on it. The waters of the Niagara, rich in dissolved calcium (in the form of calcium carbonate, from dissolved limestone bedrock) react with the organics in the water (from decaying plant and animal material) creating a sticky substance. The turbulence from the Falls and the rapids creates foam out of it. Years ago Niagara Falls was on my to-do list but I never made it. had to make do with the Marilyn Munroe film of the same name which showed it very well. Bet yourself and Chris had a fab time over there. Lesley made it to Niagara too...gosh we have great travellers here. You dont need me to tell you that yesterday was a very gloomy day. However right on cue mother nature gave us a wee bit of brightness just on cue for the departure of the Saga Sapphire which had been shrouded in Arthurian mists all day. And here she is gliding away gently. There were one or two heavily anoraked passengers abroad on the deck at the time of the departure. No doubt struggling with runny red noses to say goodbye to Merry England.
In the foreground you have luxury cabin cruiser Symphony which has decided to stay out in harbour all night rather than enter into the marina. The marina involves extra charges so they might be short of the readies !!?
But seriously though...Symphony is still in position and looking good.
This picture above was taken during the eternal miserable grey of yesterday so i had to boost it up a bit...it was yesterday morning and you can see lots of vehicles waiting to depart, but alas alas no capacity. No ships there to take them nor were any immediately approaching. This I suppose is in keeping with that DHB said in their recent press releases, that they welcomed the addition to the Port of MFL because they gave just that very thing...extra capacity.
I am cheating ever so slightly here..there was actually one ship in.. way to the right missed by the camera. But the rest of the berths were empty. " Warpath made up for lost time in leg one to take top spot in leg two of the Venture Cup prologue race.
It was almost neck and neck all the way from the Fairway Buoy west of the Isle of Wight to Guernsey today (Sunday) after stress of weather forced the opening leg of the race into Poole on Saturday.
This time it was the first day's early leader, the American entered Warpath of Daryl Grady that led the fleet across the finishing line.
Although conditions were far from calm, organisers made the correct decision to continue the race to the Channel Islands. It proved the right approach with eight of the original ten starters in London reaching Guernsey.
The win was just reward for Warpath after its crew lost vital time refuelling at Brighton during the first leg although various penalties (some due to competitors entering exclusion zones) later moved it up to third place on the overall finishing table.
The German entry of Markus Hendricks aboard Cinzano that won the opening round arrived second in Guernsey and hence is likely to be declared overall leader on elapsed time at this stage when results are finally calculated.
The Scorpion RIB Grey Ghost driven by Paul Glenister enjoyed a close tussle with sister Scorpion Hot Lemon V of Darren Mellish, the latter pipping Grey Ghost at the line to take third place."

I don't actually see that much traffic waiting to embark in the photo, Paul. The line in the foreground are drop trailers which have a park at the end of the reclaim. The rest will be swallowed up in the ship you point out as off to the right of the photo which will almost certainly be one of the Spirits, which berth on ED9, and can take 180 trucks and umpteen cars. See first photo.
There are times of the day when the port is virtually empty and then others when the different services coincide and there can be three ferries manoeuvring simultaneously inside the port. The photo above and the next two were taken recently when two ferries were approaching the Eastern Entrance and we chose to depart via the Western Entrance rather than wait for them to enter and manoeuvre. The first photo is a chocbox pic of the seafront and the second shows the detached breakwater. The Calais Seaways can be seen entering, with a P&O ferry following out of shot, the reason for our departure by Western.
Regarding the reference to DHB welcoming the addition to the port of MyFerryLink to give extra capacity. This seems a bit odd as the demise of SeaFrance removed the excess capacity which was plaguing the ferry companies and since then DFDS have put two ferries on the Calais run and now the SeaFrance ships are back again under the MFL banner. All this at a time when the figures for 2012 show that freight, cars, coaches and passenger figures had all declined. There was however a record breaking increase in pay and pension entitlement for the departing Bob Goldfield.
Have just received some additional pics of the tall ships departing Dunkerque. Nigel Thornton from Dover Ferry Photos has kindly forwarded them to me with permission to put them on the forum, I was standing beside him when he took the ones of the exquisite Belem below.

Here is a photo of Dar Mlodziezy in Dover in 2010, together with HMS Kent. The police RIB in the foreground is apparently due to be retired and the police will ride on the harbour launches instead.
Calais Opale Bus company has just introduced a tourist shuttle vessel named the Calais Majest'In. The design is based on tramway vehicles and the intention is to carry passengers on the Calais waterways between the Citadel and the Coulogne bridge.

All pictures great above and tell the full story. The sailing ships are just sublime..a big well done to Nigel Thornton too. Just think..we stood right next to them ships in Dunkerque..sob and sigh..missing them now, and will return to Dunkerque in time for further exploration.
Also of amazing interest is the Calais Majest'in..well I never, and so exciting. Must be having a trip on that one before too long. They continue to be seemingly awash with money and enterprise over there. Fascinating.
And speaking of the Calais Seaways..I got some good pictures of her yesterday battling against the awful conditions in the channel. The conditions were just unbelievable for June. I dont understand what's happening. I am beginning to wonder if Climate Change is actually a reality. But...I will now hold those pictures back so that everyone can enjoy the pictures and info above without diversion. Will add them tomorrow.

The weather goes from bizarre to more bizarre. One thing for sure I am glad I wasn't a passenger on the particular trip above.
Previously everything was calm to calmish and all round pretty good for the recent trip with DFDS to Dunkerque.. thankfully. I would probably be better than i expect on a roughish crossing but my phobic tremors get the better of me aforehand

And here I am once again with my bog-standard schedule for the next two weeks of cruise ships
Tomorrow, we have the pleasure of the beautiful Ocean Princess once again at CT2, T/R. No ship on Tuesday.
Then on Wednesday, June 19th, two Saga's arrive once again, Saga Sapphire, CT1, T/R & the Saga Ruby, CT2, T/R. No ship on Thursday.
On Friday, June 21st, the Carnival comes to town in the shape of the fabulous Carnival Legend at CT2, T/R
Then on Saturday the Braemar returns to CT1, T/R. No ship on Sunday.
On Monday, June, 24th, the Quest For Adventure returns to CT1, T/R. A long stretch then til Saturday June, 29th when the Ryndam returns to CT1, T/R. No ship on Sunday.
Ed, that Calais tourist shuttle vessel is an interesting piece of news, I will certainly be trying that one out when next in Calais, will be good to travel up the Calais waterways, I love that mode of travel, beats the busy roads for sure. - 17 June 2013 05:13233489Yes indeed, Colette. As mentioned in the listing, here is the Ocean Princess which arrived yesterday. Small but nicely packaged and photographed at 5.30 am. I'm not kidding..I do get up that early..mad fool ..lol!! 
As you can see in the pic, the sea looks a bit agitated..no doubt stilll settling down after the turbulence of previous days.
Oops i pressed the button too soon before I could add a bit of Sea-FRONT news.
Here we are..Here are a couple of automobiles, both visiting the seafront in recent days. We will be needing the expert services of Peter G again for these ones, Peter is our resident aficionado of all things automotive.
The first one is clearly a yellow Rolls Royce but which model etc is way beyond me. This car being driven along the seafront in the picture by two ordinary people, what I mean is that it wasn't hired out for a wedding or anything, so the English eccentric is alive and well. Great stuff.
It certainly caught the attention of locals passing by. Not one to miss in astonishing bright yellow.
One more to come..I seem to be having a bit of trouble with the site this morning.
This one on the other hand is most defintely a wedding car. The couple parked along the seafront to catch the sea breezes and no doubt knew they would be looked at in a car like that..not to mention be photographed. The car seems to have Beauford written on the grill..it may be a Bentley or something?
