Some great ferry figures quoted & with 3% up on last year, rather go by ferry myself, it's always a better way to start a road trip to Europe
And now for the next couple of week's cruise ships, tomorrow, Sunday, the Saga Sapphire arrives back at CT1, T/R.
Next cruise ship cruises in on Tuesday, 6th August, the Ocean Princess again, CT2, T/R.
Then on Thursday, 8th August, the Carnival Legend returns to CT2, T/R.
On Friday 9th, the Saga Ruby returns at CT1, T/R.
Saturday 10th, the Ryndam is here again at CT1, T/R.
No ship on Sunday 11th as it's Pimm's in the Park day
Monday, 12th August the AIDACara is back in Dover at CT2, with a PoC, she was last here in October 2012
Wedsnesday the 14th, we see two ships, both familiar to us, the Ocean Princess at CT2, & the Braemar at CT1, both T/R's
Thursday, 15th August, we again have two cruise ships, the Vision of the Seas, CT2,( can't remember seeing this one before) you guys can enlighten us & the MV Europa, CT1, last seen July last year, both PoC.
Saga Ruby is back on Friday 16th, CT1, T/R.
Finally for now, on Sunday 18th, the Albatros calls at CT1, PoC, last in here on May 8th - 4 August 2013 07:04239682Yes definitely better going over from Dover. I remember when the little kiddlewink was small and we went on Eurostar several times to Gay Pareee..because we were under the sea she was always so disappointed she couldnt see the fish. Any amount of explaining.....
What could be better than a sea cruise prior to a jolly good frollicking holiday..sets you off.
Looking at Colettes list above I have the feeling I may have exhausted this thread. All have been photographed mulitiple times now. But will watch out for Vision of the Seas which seems to be the exception.
Yesterday we had the very frequent Ryndam and today the familiar Saga Sapphire ( now docking).
A picture of the Ryndam from yesterday to be going on with for now. Early morning arrival 'across the rooftops'.

- 8 August 2013 03:57240084I went swimming with my granddaughters at Deal a few days ago and we spotted a single jellyfish when we first went in but that was the only one. I wore my baggy Niagara Falls T-shirt to spare everybody embarrassment at seeing my ageing body in all its glory. Unfortunately it moulded itself to me and I was mortified to win the wet T-shirt contest, much to my granddaughters glee.
Some more news on the ill-fated Astrid:
THE Astrid, the tall ship that sank off the coast of Kinsale last week, has been ransacked by thieves.
The 42-metre ship's compass, bell and binnacle, which holds navigational equipment, were stolen, the Irish Coast Guard confirmed this week.
The Coast Guard said it discovered the theft last weekend. The thieves likely managed to get onto the ship on Friday night, when the tide was low. The ship remains fully visible at low tide.
The thieves - at least two people would have been involved - defied a 200-metre Naval Service exclusion zone to get onboard the ship, which is being monitored from the coast and the air by the Coast Guard. They also risked their lives in their pursuit of the valuables on the partially submerged wreck.
The items stolen are all heavy items, with the Coast Guard noting that the raiders would have likely needed a generator and some cutting equipment to get them off. Doing so would have involved around three or four hours of hard work, the Coast Guard said, adding that the operation was well planned and presumably done for commercial gain.

Yes a local swimmer told me yesterday she had seen jellyfish. Oh dear !
Thats both amazing and sad news there about the Astrid. The story goes from bad to worse. The gall of the thieves but I suppose thats the way of it nowadays, it is still quite a shocking tale all round.
Here is one of the pictures of her while in Dover very recently and while still upright.. in case some people dont know the story so far.
also back in today is the splendid Carnival Legend if anyone wants to have a look and/or take a picture. I saw her arrive at 4.20am in the dark night, and it was a very dark night for some reason. I was up pacing the sleepless floor ! But here is a shot from a previous occasion, she is over on the western pier as we speak.

I think Ed mentioned previously that they are losing their RIB, well... here with what might be one of the final pictures if so.

Clearly they have their GPS thingy permanently switched off so that nobody knows where they are.
I dont think I have seen SEEKER before..we had pictures previously of VIGILANT. But this vessel has a mean look to it when you see it approaching..looks like it means business.

But for now we have another interesting visitor.
This is the Dutch sailing vessel Eendracht. She has been here in Dover before and this time has been languishing in the bay of the harbour all night. She looks to the landlubbers eye as a cross between an exotic yacht and a tall ship... her three masts are a bit special. She is still in place as we write. Mid harbour.
But back to The Seeker. She departed yesterday and headed off swiftly towards the west and into a freshening wind ..throwing up spray aplenty when she got going. here she is exiting the harbour about mid- morning..
