is it my imagination that there seems to be less public seating in our fair town?
i have noticed some missing opposite the bowls club near to the riverside centre and also in pencester gardens.
is someone tea leafing them in the dead of night?

Howard there has been a proliferation of seats along the seafront in recent times..perhaps they are moving them down from the town..gawd knows!
One of the favourite Dover things upon dying, upon passing over, upon kicking the bucket, (its new to me as it doesnt happen in London) is to make provision in yer afterlife for a seat to be placed along the seafront for the rest of the weary traveller and to remind all that you have been once here.
Would anyone on this forum consider such a move..I dont think its for me. I want to slip away quietly!

..ermmm after one helluva wake!!
I'm with you PaulB - a kicking wake and no bench....not sure of the attraction for having strangers botties on my memorial......but that's not to knock the ones who do, it's just not my thang!!

the ones on the seafront are paid for by the bereaved for a loved one.
last i heard each one cost 800 oncers.
for that sort of money they must have been popular.

i have a suspiscion, due to the silence, that one of our councils is on a cost cutting exercise.
the missing benches hits the older people that like a sit down while they are in town.
couple this with the parking charges, it seems that the aim is to close down dover town.
There is a demonstarble lack of understanding of peoples needs inlocal government - I remember one of the local councillors saying a while back that people didn't warrant an extra pedestrian crossing further down Pencester because they should jolly well walk up to the one at the top. And what about infirm, or elders, or people with mobility issues, or pain, or heavily pregnant.........our town is for everyone, and some people need seating...!

Howard you are right and without getting political and making Sue angry

things are tight at the Council financially,Bern on my campaign recently over Dog Mess the Portfolio Holder said he didn't know there was a dog mess problem in Tower Hamlets, there isn't there is a Dog mess problem in the whole of the district,FINE EM!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
There clearly isn't a dog mess problem in Tower Hamlets if you never go there!!! In the same way that a lack of pedestrian crossings isn't a problem if you are fully fit, able, mobile, adult and healthy!!! Where do we get them from..........................?

Bern Im most intersted in your view re Pedestrian crossings. In Pencester there are so many bus stops another crossing would create chaos. Please tell me if you are on the side of Marks and you need to go to the Post Office how far is it to walk to the crossing? You could not have a crossing the other end where Pencester joins Masion Dieu.At peak times there are already queu backs in Masion Dieu.Have you seen how much space Three double deckers take up.We need to keep the buses moving.I appreciate some people have problems walking even I have problems with my knees however I still have to walk from bus stops
Dover is already chaotic with the stretch between Worthington Street and Priory Street Traffic needs to keep moving..,as for seats if people did not damage them. There are one or two outside of Marks some in Market Square and one bought by the Husk family near the subway in Bench Street .Loads on the seat front some in Pencester gardens ,others by the Town Hall.I know mt seats.
Frankly it is not how many seats or crossings we have as the idiocy that sometimes comes out of peoples mouths that worries me!!! And I am not directing this at Sue or anyone specific, but at the babble that emerges from any governmental department, including local government. I am not perturbed that we cannot have another crossing in Pencester, but that someone in authority had so little imagination about the local constituents and their needs - the remark passed about "they should jolly well walk up the road to the crossing" was made with contempt for people with needs, with no respect for local people and with no concept of "difference". You may be - probably are - right about not having another crossing there, but the back-story is that that isn't the point - the point is there are many people who make decisions about our local environment who haven't the real connection with people, the imagination to view around the issues or the will to make appropriate changes. For goodness sake, local bodies cannot even advertise themselves adequately or make themselves known!!!!

I cant speak for fellow councillors, however you will rarely find me in a pub or dancing the night away.I think im pretty well known however I donot bounce up to people and say Im Sue Nicholas member of the cabinet on DDC.After 21 years its a poor show if you dont know me.I was in Somerfields couple of days ago three young girls spotted me and said Hullo. How did they know me because im a School governor and they have seen me at their school. You would be surprised how many oeople from St Radigunds know me through being a governor of the school. My work with Age Concern another group of people.Like I see the play are in Pencester is coming on .

it would appear that i am not going to get an answer about which particular branch of our democracy, removed
the seats.
we used to get district councillors making posts on here about the nitty gritty, keith, nigel, brian martin, even paul watkins at one time.
apolgoies to those that i have forgotten.
it seems that it is confined to the ivory tower up at whitfield.
no wonder graham at the mercury was driven to such a scathing editorial a while back.
Sorry Sue - I am not sure what your point is...? You are known and have connections....was I not clear enough first that my posting was not directed towards individuals and that included you, and that having a good PR profile isn't enough.....
What on earth is that about dancing and pubs???!!! And no, I don't know you - whose poor show is that and what does it matter?

well, i am clearly not going to get an answer here.
seems like the elderly and infirm do not matter.
i have had information that councillors that have posted on here, know the truth.
i will have to take further steps to see who is responsible.

paul
things are getting out of hand, as our old friend keef has pointed out, there seems to be approx 8 councillors to every ward.
there are a few that post here, usually only to boast about their achievements.
i have raised so many issues recently that only town, district or county councillors can answer.
they will be more verbose when they want our vote.

Howard some Cllrs do post on here and we don't all boast about what we have done well not all the time, recently in the las week or two I was asked about an accociation putting up a bench, when I put to them the cost of a bench, thier eyes lit up with horror and asked how much a plaque would be.
But in my little position unlike high flying Sue or Nigel I am not in the loop of many BIG things but if I can answer I will.o.k.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
