16:4139782Can someone tell me please why Snargate Street never seems to attract an air of gloom, even though some properties are empty? Always looks immaculate on a clear sunny day.I took this at lunchtime today.

16:4339785It always reminds me of my town, Wexford, in Ireland - always cheerful along the seafront, bustling with coastal activity. Colourful and lively.

18:1339793I see that Bern having been to Wexford, had our honeymoon in Arklow, went to Vale of Avoca and bumped into Terry Neal from Deal and a coach load of people from Eastry and I knew half of them.

If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

11:5139877Walking along the land-side of Snargate Street (the shop-side) it is not inspiring at all; the buildings generally may not be as dilapidated as many in Town, but a lot are neglected and need tidying up.

12:1639882Thanks Roger/Howard. I do frequently walk from Debrad`s along Snargate Street and over the swing bridge to the sea front, but it`s always looked alright to me from the opposite side of the road, but I will this coming week make it a point to walk the land side for a closer view. Perhaps it`s those colourful buildings which give a false impression?

13:2039896A bit of colour always improves the outlook, Roger is right it needs a bit of TLC, slowly getting there though, I noticed, whilst walking along Snargate Street friday morning

15:3240884Got round to looking harder at Snargate Street, and yes, room for improvement especially the Hoverhotel. Still very colourful along there though in the sunshine, and here showing one of Dover`s oldest business`s, Sharp & Enright.
P.S. Never used that diner next door. Any comments?

16:3840897The Hovertel did have a planning application for demolition and replacement - I guess they are waiting out the recession now...
Been nice knowing you :)

16:3840898Even if it is (and it is) a bit shabby, the colour lifts it. Wexford has been really re-vamped (pre-financial crisis) recently and the harbour and seafront areas have had a massive facelift, and it is much improved - I don't think it would take such a big investment for the Dover seafront shops to be lifted a bit, to be honest. A bit of colour and some new shops/shop-owners and we're there. It has some lovely natural advantages.

18:0340904I think you might be right with that one Bern that will bring back the town as it was years ago.

A problem I noticed from last year which does need attention, and making an eyesore is this continuous puddle by the bustop.

Lovely sunny morning for the first day of April, so had a walkabout today with the camera, trying not to take any repetative image`s. Anyway, here`s a shot of a building I`ve personally always found colourful, and shows what colour can do to a building.

The old Seamens Mission Colin with the new extension on the left. British Sailors Society was the proper name I believe. Unfortunately it has been closed for 15 months. Had many a good pint in there, and stayed there when I first came to Dover nearly forty years ago to work on the Hoverdraft.

Thank you for that Alec, and let`s hope it doesn`t fall into disrepair. I see a for sale board up. What`s it worth then? Maybe in 30 years time it`ll become the Forum mission for retired forumite`s?

colin, that puddle has been there for a while along with the ones on the york street roundabout.all it needs is the drains having a clear out.

Thanks Brian, but the laws of physics would have to be violated mate, causing the water to run uphill to the drain.
